Graphic Designer

Working collaboratively within the small-but-mighty Marketing and Communications team, you will you will provide art direction and graphic design expertise to a wide range of projects and publications. By transforming project ideas into tangible and functional marketing products - whether for community-based initiatives, presentations, print materials, advertising, trade shows, digital media, or other communications support - this position serves to profile WorkplaceNL and, ultimately, educate and inspire people across Newfoundland and Labrador to prevent workplace injuries.

Role Responsibilities

You will design branded and educational materials, including marketing collateral, website assets, social media graphics and other visual elements across various channels to support strategic corporate initiatives. This includes, but is not limited to, the following activities.

  • Starting with the project brief, you will plan, manage and implement internal and external marketing and communications projects for WorkplaceNL as a member of the Marketing and Communications team.
  • Collaborating closely with the Manager of Marketing and Communications and other stakeholders, the Graphic Designer takes the lead on design to establish strategic art direction, graphics, illustration and photo selection/editing.
  • A fierce champion for Pantone 3125 and Myriad Pro Regular, you ensure continuity of brand and accessibility standards across the organization.
  • Reviews communications initiatives and meets with stakeholders, providing not just graphic design and implementation services, but also serving a key role in refining the means by which WorkplaceNL communicates.
  • Liaises with printers and advertisers to ensure quality finished materials are delivered on schedule and at a competitive cost.
  • Helps to maintain computer hardware/software, printers and copiers by monitoring and evaluating performance, correcting problems when possible and arranging for services when necessary.
  • Ensures all documentation for graphics, layout and design packages are kept up-to-date, including the maintenance of digital records of all work produced for WorkplaceNL.
  • Other duties as required and/or assigned.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in graphic design.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in graphic design.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in graphic design, video production, animation and/or other creative techniques by providing a portfolio of work.
  • Advanced proficiency in industry standard software, including Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, content management systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding of web and social media platforms and design best practice.
  • Strong collaboration and presentation skills; able to convey design rationale to the larger team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple demands and tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders - acting with respect, kindness, integrity and professionalism.
