Job Overview:
The Senior Manager Legal Services Procurement and Delivery Optimization will lead and execute TD Legal's program for optimal delivery of legal services to TD Bank; including the strategic management and oversight of TD Legal's portfolio of external legal services providers to optimize quality, value and spend.
Depth & Scope
This position will be part of the Knowledge Management and Strategic Enablement Team (KMSE) and will work with all legal Practice Groups to help drive TD Legal's strategic priorities and meet business needs through innovative and optimal use of External Legal Service Providers (ELSPs) and alternative legal service delivery models. The successful candidate will be a seasoned program manager who is able to handle a high level of complexity, demonstrate strong problem-solving and project management skills, communicate effectively with attorneys, technologists, and executives, and excel in leading change. Experience negotiating financial and contract terms, and direct knowledge of law firm practices and pricing are essential.
Accountabilities
Lead TD's ELSP procurement program with the aim of building and strengthening partnerships while driving effective pricing strategies
Set vision and strategy for transformational and best in class legal service delivery program that optimizes legal spend and value and quality of legal services
Oversee the onboarding of ELSP's and inventory management of TD Legal's global firm roster, ensuring they understand TD's expectations and procedures
Conduct needs assessments and regular check-ins with stakeholders to ensure alignment of external legal services with business objectives and legal requirements
In partnership with practice teams, identify and oversee implementation of emerging technology and processes for innovative service delivery opportunities including through stratification of legal work and alternative service delivery models
Raise awareness and highlight the value of the Legal department's knowledge management program; increase engagement and use of the knowledge management tool and information resources; foster a knowledge-sharing culture across legal eco-system
Positively and creatively influence desired departmental change; communicate program case for change; help others anticipate and manage through change
Identify, collect, and report on global key performance indicators relating to budget and spend management as well as ELSP diversity, ensuring data quality within the matter and ELSP engagement process
Partner with KMSE Analytics and Insights team to produce and leverage business intelligence to identify trends, performance gaps and opportunities for improvement and to make decisions that advance strategic priorities
Provide creative thinking, leveraging data insights and technology, to help identify and develop cutting-edge strategies and pricing models for reducing and providing improved transparency and predictability for external legal spend while maintaining excellent legal representation.
Work cross-functionally with professionals in Legal, Finance, IT, and others
Document and automate spend management workflows using various technologies (e.g., RFP process)
Collaborate on various ad hoc Legal Operations projects to ensure progress against larger strategic Legal Operations goals for TD Legal
Education, Qualifications, and Experience
Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, legal studies or related field
JD or LLB or LLM preferred
10+ years relevant experience in a corporate legal department, law firm or relevant operational management role, with expertise in the field of Knowledge Management
Strong financial acumen and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and metrics
Excellent negotiation, communication and people skills
Strong leadership, management, and communication skills, both written and oral
Tech-savvy and well-versed in legal enterprise software, tools, and applications including familiarity with matter management and e-billing systems and advanced use of Microsoft Office Suite
Demonstrated ability to independently deliver initiatives on multiple workstreams concurrently using change management practices to facilitate transitions related to technology, processes, and people
Enthusiastic, self-motivated team player with a strong interest in learning, creating efficient processes and a seamless user experience
Strategic decision making, sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills required along with a proven track record in collaborating with diverse stakeholders and influencing change
