Job Summary
This is an advanced professional, specialized clinical position in which the provision of psychological assessment, standardized psychometric testing, formulation of the diagnosis based upon the DSM-5 criterion, and of therapeutic intervention are paramount for the treatment of children, youth and families.

The Clinical Psychologist III is an integral part of the interdisciplinary team at the Youth Treatment Centre. The psychologist is a clinical practitioner and provides specialized individual, group and family therapy in situations where the application of professional analysis based upon a broad range of theoretical frameworks in complex practice situations is essential. This clinician functions autonomously using independent judgment in determining appropriate assessment, diagnosis and interventions; developing, implementing and evaluating/analyzing treatment plans. Work also involves providing clinical education and consultation to other professional personnel; mentoring; coaching and clinical consultation to enhance the delivery of client care to youth residing at the treatment centre and their families; and participation in case consultation, case coordination and discharge planning. Other duties also include: provision of direction for professional development; clinical education and consultation with other organizations and agencies; evaluation of services; provision and development of clinical placements for students and psychology residents; ensuring compliance with professional standards; development and implementation of psychology policies as they affect this population group. The psychologist responds to broader systems issues impacting on services to this specific client population and acts as an expert witness in court.

This position reports to the Program Manager, Tuckamore Centre and maintains accountability to the Psychology Professional Practice Consultant for integrity and professional practice issues.

Occasionally, there is lifting or physical strength required, less than 10 lbs.
Regularly sits, occasionally works in awkward/cramped positions, stands to facilitate or teach groups.
Fine finger/precision work when on the computer and visual concentration is required when in sessions with patients (i.e. reviewing patient charts/notes, tests and for documenting work, and when reading or researching information).
Auditory concentration is required in sessions with patients to listen attentively, to be alert and to obtain and interpret information correctly. A higher than normal level of attentiveness is required when assessing high risk patients.

Job Qualifications
Graduation with an approved/recognized Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology is required.
Registration or provisional registration with Newfoundland and Labrador Psychology Board is required.
Graduate course work and supervised experience in psychological assessment and therapy with individuals, families, and groups with a specific focus on complex mental health and/or addictions issues is required.
Current CPR/First Aid would be an asset.
Exhibited strong communication, program development and evaluation skills.
Possessed proven analytical, critical reasoning, collaboration, problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise and mentor students.
Demonstrated ability to effectively translate and communicate knowledge in the specialized area of psychology practice to others.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional environment and provide clinical consultation.
Ability to work autonomously, prioritizing caseloads and client needs.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a constructive working rapport with clients.
Demonstrated strong awareness of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
