Demands, duties, qualifications

Job Summary
Rotating through Biochemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine and if required, Microbiology, the Laboratory Technologist I performs routine and complex laboratory testing; performs phlebotomy when required; runs Quality Control following established procedures and keeps appropriate documentation. Performs routine preventative maintenance procedures on various laboratory instruments and keeps appropriate documentation. The candidate promotes Patient Safety initiatives through strict application of Eastern Health Policies. Performs other related duties, as required.

Job Demands
By applying for this job, you acknowledge an understanding that regular requirements and demands of this job include (but are not limited to):
Occasionally lifts and/or unload objects weighing up to 30 lbs.
Regularly stands or sits for extended periods, requiring constant repetitive movement of upper extremities and walking to deliver reports/results.
Visual and auditory concentration are constant and eye/hand coordination and higher than normal levels of attentiveness are required.

Job Qualifications
Graduation from a recognized (accredited) program with a diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or a degree in Medical Laboratory Science is required.
Current and continuing certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) as a general MLT or applicable subject MLT is required.
Current and continuing registration with the NL Council of Health Professionals is required.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.

*The successful applicant must be willing to complete at the first available opportunity refresher courses at the request of the employer.
