Definition of Work:
This position is primarily responsible for providing comprehensive Therapeutic Recreation Services. This dynamic individual is a member of the interdisciplinary team and will be responsible for completing leisure inventories; documentation of resident participation and progress; program planning; development, implementation and evaluation of diversified recreation participation opportunities based on the needs, skills, abilities and interests of residents; assisting with activities of daily living; and other duties as assigned. Professional practice issues that arise in this position will be reported to the Regional Manager of Therapeutic Recreation Services. This position will report to the Manager of Client Care Services for daily operations. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Required qualifications:
• Graduation from high school with a diploma recognized by the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
• A minimum two-year diploma in Therapeutic Recreation or a two-year diploma in recreation, with major experience in developing, organizing, and implementing recreation/leisure programs in health care.
• Minimum 1 year experience, within the last 5 years, in the field of Therapeutic Recreation in a long-term care or health care setting.
• Demonstrated competencies in problem solving, program planning, and strong motivation.
• Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated positive, respectful and sensitive approach to the needs of residents.
• Demonstrated ability to work within a team or with a high degree of independence.
• An unrestricted Class IV driver's license.
• Consistent demonstration of Central Health's corporate values; Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence (I CARE)
• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
• A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
Preferred Qualifications:
A current member of the NLTRA.
