Demands, duties, qualifications
About the Role
Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health & Addictions, the primary purpose of this position is to provide mental health & addiction services to individuals and families at the Labrador Health Centre. Services include screening, assessment, intervention, community outreach, promotion, and prevention activities.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an approved/recognized School of Nursing program;
- Current and continuing practicing licensure with RNUNL is required;
- Advanced Studies in Mental Health Certificate OR Canadian Nursing Association Psychiatric Nursing Certificate, or willingness to obtain in a time frame deemed acceptable by the employer;
- Two years work experience in a multi-disciplinary mental health setting is preferred; An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;
- Experience working in a community health setting with focus on health promotion preferred;
- Valid drivers license and use of private vehicle;
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS);
- The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct.
Duties:
- Provides mental health & addiction screening, assessment, intervention, referral and psychiatric rehabilitation services from a holistic view for inpatients, outpatients, families, and/or communities;
- Organizes, plans, implements and evaluates the plan of care for assigned FACTT and MH&A service users in collaboration with the client, their circle of care, and the multi- disciplinary team;
- Works as an active team member of the Mental Health & Addictions team (including FACTT), by counselling individuals and family members regarding behavioral modifications, symptom management, rehabilitation, social adjustment, and financial assistance;
- Develops, coordinates and/or delivers health promotion, maintenance and illness prevention activities;
- Provides brief talk therapy and other related therapeutic interventions based on assessment of the service user;
- Ensures that doctor's instructions on treatment of patients are carried out; prepares and gives medication and injections according to doctor's instructions; charts patients' behavior and responses;
- Maintains timely and accurate documentation according to professional and organizational standards;
- Consults with clients, physicians, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure appropriate plans of care are developed, implemented and monitored;
- This position exercises a significant degree of independent clinical judgment while providing services to individuals who are seeking or requiring service. As we continue to implement other recommendations from "Towards Recovery: The Mental Health and Addictions Action Plan for Newfoundland and Labrador", the incumbent will assume other responsibilities;
- Performs other related duties as required;
- Other related duties as required, travel may be required, may be required to work alone.
