The position is for approximately 80 hours of service in a two-week period. This transpires to a minimum of 13 to 14 shifts
per month depending on the day and night shifts (respectively day shift 10 hours and night shift 14 hours).

Salary This is a fee for service position paid at Category A ER rates. ER Rate is $232.07 per hour. Remuneration is in accordance with the Medical Care Plan (MCP) guidelines for Category A Emergency Departments.

NL Health Services Eastern Zone invites expressions of interest for two (2) permanent full-time fee-for-service Emergency Room Physicians to work in the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, NL.

NL Health Services is the new Provincial Health Authority of Newfoundland and Labrador providing a full continuum of health and community services, including public health, long-term care, community services, hospital care and unique provincial programs and services. across the province.

About Us

NL Health Services has 2 full time Emergency Room positions available for the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital. The hospital provides services to a catchment area of approximately 20,000 people.

The hospital has 41 acute care beds (2 palliative care, 26 medical/surgical, 8 obstetrics, 1 pediatric, 4 ICU), 9 ER, and 44 long term care. Services to patients include anesthesia, chemotherapy, family practice, general surgery, gynecology, obstetrics, ICU/Cardiac, internal medicine, laboratory, palliative care, pathology, pediatrics, psychiatry, radiology, respiratory therapy, ultrasonography and 24-hour emergency (category A). Other services include nursing, nutritional, pharmacy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, pastoral care, social work, diabetic education, and speech language pathology. Visiting clinics include neurology and ophthalmology.

The long-term care patients are in the Dr. Albert O'Mahony Manor. This is a long-term care facility attached to the hospital. There are 2 other facilities affiliated with the hospital and located in the town. Coish Place houses 2 Psychiatrists and various community support programs including dialysis. The Bungalow is a 10-bed protective care facility.

Job Summary

Both positions are available immediately. The ER shifts are allocated in an equitable and predictable templated format. ER MD shifting is solo, with ER Nurse Practitioner support from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. on weekdays. A limited amount of 2 nd ER MD shifting is also used as available during peak periods. Core generalist specialty support resources are in place, a dedicated ER portable ultrasound is based in the ER, and 24 hour emergent CT scanning is available in the building. MD ambulance transfer escort duties and operating room assistance may also be required. A shared 0.5 FTE appointment could potentially be considered as an alternative.

Excellent communication skills with a team player approach and strong commitment to high quality patient and physician services is also required.

  • Medical Degree

Relocation Incentives :

Assistance can be provided to offset expenses related to relocation, contingent on the execution of a return-in-service agreement. To be eligible for reimbursement, the incumbent must remain employed with NL Health Services for a period of 24 worked months. Relocation expenses will be approved in accordance with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Relocation Policy. Benefits:

Annual Retention Bonus is offered in accordance with the current Memorandum of Agreement which is currently $5,000
after 12 eligible months, $10,000 after 24 eligible months, and $15,000 after 36 eligible months.
