Western Zone, situated on the scenic west coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, is hiring a full-time, salaried Pediatrician to join a stable and collegial group of three Pediatricians providing services to Corner Brook and surrounding area.

Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital's(STRH)Anesthesia department is comprised of a total of two full-time equivalents (FTE), with integration alongside Western Memorial Regional Hospital's eight FTE, to form a Western Zone Department of Anesthesia The general accountabilities of the position include providing Anesthesia services within the scope of practice, including consultations, pre-anesthesia assessment clinics, and provision of an acute & chronic pain services. There are no on call services at STRH, although on call cover may be required from time to time at WMRH.

Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital is a 44-bed acute care hospital offering 24-hour emergency room service and predominantly General Surgery lists, although additional surgical services are being expanded. Interventional Chronic Pain clinics are run regularly. The hospital is located approximately one hour's drive away from Corner Brook where Western Memorial Regional Hospital (WMRH), a 164-bed regional referral centre, is located, and provides services to a population base of approximately 78,000 people in western Newfoundland.

WMRH specialty services include: Obstetrics/Gynecology, General Surgery, Urology, Orthopedics, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Family Medicine (Hospitalist) and 24-hour Emergency coverage. Further supportive services include, 24-hour Diagnostic Imaging and Laboratory Services, Physiotherapy, Respiratory Therapy, Chemotherapy, Pharmacy, Dialysis, and Palliative Care. There are visiting surgical services for Dental Surgery and pacemakers. We are affiliated with Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador Medical School, and we encourage and support academic interests.

Rotation to WMRH is encouraged for skills maintenance and to foster departmental collegial collaboration. Future integration into a Western Zone department, covering both sites, is envisaged in the longer term.

Qualifications Required

Recognized medical degree and eligible for licensure as an Anesthesiologist with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (CPSNL), Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certified or eligibleand meets the credentialing requirements of NLHS - WZ's Discipline of Perioperative.

Remuneration

  • The Specialist Salary Scale ranges from $263,672 to $285,596 per annum as outlined in the current Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). The Department of Health and Community Services in accordance with Provincial Guidelines will officially determine a Physician's step assignment with yearly progression thereafter.
  • An annual retention bonus is offered in accordance with the current MOA.
  • Additional benefits are available, including employer sponsored RRSP, health benefits and generous leave package.
  • Relocation allowance is available.
  • Physician Signing Bonus and other incentives are available.

Available Incentives

Physician Signing Bonus $150,000 with $25,000 top up
Physician Recruitment Incentive Pilot - $200,000 ($100,000 per year)
Come Home Incentive - $100,000 (if eligibility criteria are met)
