Qualifications:
- Graduation from an approved/recognized school of nursing program is required and the successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner Program;
- Current and continuing practicing licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL) as a Nurse Practitioner is required;
- Canadian Nurses Association certification in "Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing" is an asset;
- Demonstrated progressive clinical leadership skills and excellent communication skills;
- Strong abilities in the areas of collaboration, clinical reasoning, professional development, interpersonal effectiveness, conflict management and teamwork;
- Demonstrated ability to function autonomously in and advanced practice role;
- A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance;
- The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct and vulnerable sector check;
Duties: (Included but not limited to)
- Provides Acute Care support to the regional 6-bed Mental Health Unit in Happy Valley-Goose Bay as part of a collaborative team of nurses, physicians, and other health professionals;
- This is a highly progressive nursing position responsible for assessment, treatment, evaluation, and follow-up of clients on the Mental Health Unit;
- This position is responsible for ordering diagnostic testing, laboratory testing and prescribing medications as deemed appropriate;
- The incumbent may assist to facilitate transfers to appropriate settings or arrange community-based follow-up as required;
- The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centred care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risk and implementing improvements;
- Consults with clients, psychiatrists, physicians, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure appropriate plans of care are developed, implemented, and monitored;
