Job Summary
The work of a Primary Care Paramedic involves operating an ambulance in responding to emergencies and routine calls and providing skilled basic and advanced emergency care to persons suffering from a variety of illnesses and injuries. The Primary Care Paramedic is required to assess, stabilize and report on the nature and severity of the illness or injury. Work is performed with considerable independence and is reviewed through observation, examination of records/reports and the presence or absence of valid complaints. Reports directly to the Operations Supervisors.

Regularly lifts and moves patients and equipment (between 25-50 lbs.) and involved in heavy lifting/pushing/pulling of stretchers (100 lbs.) and patients.
Constantly stands, bends, stretches, kneels or pushes and pulls; sometimes in small and cramped spaces.
Constantly requires visual concentration or alertness to drive ambulances, complete site and patient assessments and to administer medications. Regularly there are time pressures in the pre-hospital emergency setting.
Regularly there is lack of control over work pace occurs due to the unpredictable situations during a medical emergency, or unpredictable call volume.
Job Qualifications
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Completion of Primary Care Paramedic Program.
Registration with the Provincial Medical Oversight Program.
Possession of a valid Class 4 Driver's License as issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Experience in Emergency Care is required.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
A satisfactory code of conduct, a driver's abstract, original education documents, proof of registration and current CPR are conditions of employment. The applicant must also participate in a pre-placement capabilities test.
