Job Summary
The Laboratory Technologist III reports to the Laboratory Operations Manager. The Laboratory Technologist III will perform a variety of cytogenetic and/or specialized molecular diagnostic procedures on patient samples to provide accurate diagnostic and treatment information. These duties include, but are not limited to, nucleic acid extraction, PCR/RT-PCR (qualitative and quantitative), metaphase chromosome analysis, FISH, fragment/microsatellite analysis (3500XL Genetic Analyzer), traditional Sanger sequencing (3500XL Genetic Analyzer), and second-generation massively parallel sequencing (Illumina NovaSeq 6000) for both germline and somatic conditions. The Technologist will recognize abnormal findings, determine the need for further testing and respond according to laboratory guidelines. The Technologist will operate and maintain equipment in accordance with established procedures and protocols, participate in quality control/quality assurance measures and assist in the validation of new assays. Other related duties as required.

Visual concentration is required when performing procedures and auditory concentration is required to communicate and give information, to listen for alarms, timers, etc.
Job Qualifications
Graduation from a recognized (accredited) program with a diploma in Genetics Technology is required.
Current and continuing certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) as a Genetics Technologist is required.
Current and continuing licensing with the NL Council of Health Professionals (NLCHP) is required.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and as part of a robust team.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
The successful applicant must be willing to complete at the first available opportunity refresher courses at the request of the employer.
