Definition of Work:
The Early Outreach Youth Worker will be responsible for the provision of early intervention and outreach services to youth. The successful candidate will work as a member of the Health Promotion and Prevention team in consultation with clinical staff within the Mental Health and Addictions Program. This position reports to the Regional Manager of Mental Health and Addictions Services. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Duties:
- Functions with a high level of autonomy while functioning as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Works directly with youth and/or families by providing education and support in navigating Mental Health and Addiction services and by connecting youth and/or families to other collaborative services within the community.
- Collaborates and networks with the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District, youth services and community groups.
- Coordinates support and outreach activities with a wide range of individuals, groups, organizations and communities.
- Prepares and delivers presentations, educational activities and group activities.
- Travel throughout the region is required.
- Evening and weekend work are required.
Required qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in the area of Social Sciences.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of independence while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mental health and addictions programs, services and community resources.
- Demonstrated effective skills in interpersonal relationships, interdisciplinary team collaboration, communication, advocacy, networking, time management, planning and organization.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to utilize a range of technologies.
- Use of a private vehicle and valid driver's license are a condition of employment.
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check from Child, Senior and Social Development.
- A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
- A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.

Preferred qualifications:
- Demonstrated specialized training and experience working with youth within a Mental Health and Addictions setting within the last five years.
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities in a Mental Health and Addictions setting.
