The Engineering Services Division is focused on providing quality project management, engineering design services, and engineering support to the lines of business within Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro. Our long term Asset Management Plan includes an ambitious capital program to rebuild, renew, and replace significant portions of our installed asset base.
We currently have an opening in the Civil and Lines Department for a Civil Engineer. The incumbent is expected to exercise a significant level of personal initiative and judgment in carrying out assigned duties as they relate to design and construction.
You will be responsible to perform all aspects of project design from the conceptual stage and prefeasibility studies through to final design. You will prepare budget estimates, work orders, material and equipment orders and contract documents. You will also evaluate and recommend contract awards; develop Engineering Standards; and perform construction management duties for assigned projects. You will review and support developing capital budget applications, while coordinating with a multi-discipline team to perform estimates and technical justification proposals for all NL Hydro's regulated infrastructure.
Travel within the Province of Newfoundland & Labrador will be required in this position.
Job Requirements:
To excel in this position you will need to bring the following:
- Graduation from a recognized university with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Civil/Structural) with 5 years' experience since graduation;
- Eligibility for membership in the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL) as a professional engineer;
- Experience in developing and managing engineering consultant contracts;
- Experience in developing and managing construction contracts;
- Experience with review of engineering drawings identifying problems and resolutions;
- Experience in engineering projects estimating, development and project management techniques;
- Proven and demonstrated communication skills;
- Ability to thrive as a participant and/or leader within a multi-discipline team of both internal and external resources;
- Experience in structural engineering design would be an asset;
- Experience in project management would be an asset;
- You must possess a valid driver's license.
