(The salary scale for NSCC Faculty is based on steps that range from $74,170.79 - $102,223.12. New Faculty may receive up to a maximum of five steps for relevant occupational experience and may receive up to an additional four steps for full-time equivalent years of instructional experience (instructional experience is defined as teaching post-secondary). The maximum a new Faculty can expect to receive is nine steps or $95,478.45.
What you will be doing…
As a faculty member in the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) team, you will provide theoretical and practical instruction related to equitable teaching practices and teaching innovation for a diverse group of learners. This will be done through collaborative design and delivery of courses and other professional development activities offered by the Centre for Teaching and Learning, including courses in the Adult Education Program. Duties will include preparation, instruction, assessment, and evaluation using a broad range of flexible teaching and learning practices and technologies, such as Brightspace and the Microsoft 365 suite.
As a member of the CTL Faculty, you will also provide pedagogical peer support, both in person and remotely, to NSCC Faculty across all Schools and Campuses with a specific focus with the School of Access, Education, and Language. Your primary campus will be one of Pictou, Truro, or Cumberland, but you will have a region of coverage, in addition to being expected to visit Campuses across the province, as required. This will include all aspects of teaching practice (e.g., assessment, evaluation, instructional methods and strategies, classroom management/student engagement) through the development of communities of practice and by coaching, consultation, and instructional feedback. You will also provide ongoing mentoring to new Faculty. You will guide and advise your Faculty peers in implementing high quality and equitable teaching practices (i.e., culturally responsive practices and teaching aligned with the Universal Design for Learning framework) across a variety of course delivery modalities (e.g., face to face, hybrid, online).
Your related duties will include working in close collaboration with the entire CTL team and liaising with School and Campus teams to assess and respond to the situational teaching support needs of your Faculty colleagues. This response will include creating and providing resources and tools as part of the pedagogical guidance you provide to your Faculty peers. You will coordinate and collaborate with other key partners, such as Academic Equity and Quality, Student Affairs, and Digital Innovation and Technology, who provide support to Faculty across several domains (e.g., program quality, curriculum, educational technology, learning materials and resources, accessibility, and student wellness). You will also help your Faculty peers navigate and access these supports, as well as other resources and information that is relevant to teaching across NSCC. Related duties also include, but are not limited to, advisement related to Faculty perspectives and needs, participating on committees, program marketing, engaging in collaborative pedagogical development within faculty working groups, liaising with internal and external partners, representing the College as required and upholding NSCC policies and procedures.
As a Faculty in the CTL, you will be expected to maintain currency with the latest teaching practices and to continually develop your understanding of teaching professional development. This position may involve different delivery modalities (e.g. in-class, online, blended online/in-class), off-site instruction, and alternate work hours such as weekends and evenings.

The Faculty positions are part of the Centre for Teaching and Learning, reporting to the Interim Senior Manager, Teaching and Learning.
Qualifications and Occupational Experience:
- The minimum educational qualification for this position is a University Degree, College Certificate or Diploma, or Red Seal Certification.
- You possess a minimum of five years' teaching experience at the postsecondary level, with previous College teaching an asset.
- You have demonstrated a consistent and ongoing commitment to improving your teaching practice through participation in formal education and/or professional learning activities, conferences, research, professional organizations and affiliations, and/or documented informal/independent professional learning related to teaching practice.
- You have formal education and/or demonstrated experience working with programs specific to the School of Access, Education, and Language.
- You have strong and clearly demonstrated facilitation and presentation skills.
- You have proven experience and a reputation for being an excellent collaborator and team member.
- You have experience in a team-teaching environment and a strong track record of working as an active participant to collaboratively develop curriculum and resources.
- You have demonstrated experience implementing and continuously improving equitable design and teaching practices in support of an exceptional student experience.
- You demonstrate a commitment to teaching by taking responsibility for continually acquiring knowledge and skills about innovative and emerging teaching practices and tools.
- You have demonstrated experience in the areas of coaching and/or mentoring peers to support their professional growth and specific skill development.
- You have exceptional skills using computer applications [such as the Microsoft 365 Suite (including Microsoft Teams) and Brightspace] for the purpose of teaching, and are experienced in sharing that knowledge with others.
- You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in support of an exceptional student experience.
- You have demonstrated experience liaising with communities, business, and industry in your field to remain current and connected to your field.
- You have knowledge and experience in cultivating a safe teaching and learning environment, inclusive of fostering community and cultural safety, applying WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety, cyber-security, and other teaching-specific safety practices, effectively in an online/blended environment which includes building knowledge of best practices for the delivery and management of courses delivered whole or in part online, using a course management system to communicate with students and to foster and support a collaborative online learning community with and between students will be an important factor in your success. Candidates who do not have previous online/blended teaching experience must be open to and willing to participate in training for this delivery model.

As a condition of employment, Faculty at NSCC must complete a part-time adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status, all probationary, full or part-time Faculty of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Faculty whose term appointment is twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.
