The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Tailings and Dams Student to join our Tailings and Dams Management Team in Long Harbour, NL.

This is an on-site position, working a 4x10s (Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday) schedule. This is a 4-month to 12-month fixed term co-op position starting in January 2025.

As a Tailings and Dams Student, you will support the management of the Residue Storage Area and associated structures by working directly with the RTFE and Operations team that supports residue and water management at Long Harbour.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Make regular site and visual inspections of the Tailings dams
  • Participate in monitoring and data analysis
  • Provide project support of design and evaluation of containment dams
  • Assist with Geotechnical investigations and data collection
  • Support the tailings operations, planning and deposition
  • Assist with site specific geophysical and hydrogeology studies

About You

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering or relevant engineering program

Experience:

  • Experience in an industrial environment will be considered an asset

Skills:

  • Follow Vale's safety policies, programs and legislative standards
  • Must be obsessed with safety and risk
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 products to include Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Strong verbal, written and analytical communication skills
  • Provide technical support and enable safe and cost-effective operations
  • Utilize good engineering practices and complete assigned projects safely and on time
