Demands, duties, qualifications

Duties: Provides specialized and advanced professional addictions services in a provincial addictions treatment center setting; provides a full range of services including detoxification support, intensive group and individual psychotherapy and education; comprehensive assessment, treatment, follow-up and referral in the context of a mental health and addictions team setting; acts as a consultant to provincial referral sources. This position demands independence with work assignments of a complex nature and the use of specialized skills in the treatment of alcohol, gambling and other drug dependencies within an inpatient treatment setting. While the primary function of this position is to support operations of the Humberwood Center, this position may be involved in assessment, treatment, follow up and support of individuals with mental health and addictions needs throughout various mental health and addictions programs and services.

Qualifications: Knowledge of professional counselling, assessment and case evaluation techniques in the area of addictions is required. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Considerable experience in counselling individuals and groups in the area of addictions is also required. The required knowledge and abilities for this position would normally have been acquired through progressively responsible experience in individual, group and family counselling in the area of addictions, and graduation from an accredited university with a Bachelor of Social Work, Master's preferred, a Master of Education/Clinical Psychology, or a graduate degree in a clinical discipline with experience in an addictions treatment setting. Candidates must be eligible for registration within their profession.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is a requirement for this position.
