The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Lab Coordinator to join our Port Colborne Refinery team in Port Colborne, Ontario. This is a permanent position.
The Lab Coordinator provides support to the Operating units at the Refinery. The Lab Coordinator is required to be multi-skilled and able to carry out a wide variety of routine analytical techniques. In this role you will rotate through various jobs to ensure skill sets are maintained. There are multiple shift rotations at our 24/7/5 days a week operation. Your ability to troubleshoot analytical instrumentation will be viewed as an asset.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Set up and calibrate existing analytical instrumentation ICP-OES, ICP-MS, LECO Combustion/Fusion analysis
- Operation of computer programs for the calibration of analytical equipment and generation of diagnostic results.
- Monitoring results to assure quality and identify suspect data by applying problem solving skills, potentially re-assaying to correct
- To be well versed in data management using LIMS for examination of data.
- Maintenance involving calibration, cleaning parts, and troubleshooting problems to ensure that the instruments stay in full working order.
- Generation of accurate and timely investigation based on a full understanding of the customer request.
About You
Education:
- Bachelor of Science Degree or relevant technical college diploma.
Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar role.
- Previous experience in mining or an industrial setting is considered an asset.
- LECO and Spectro instrument experience is not a must but is a bonus.
- Knowledge of hydrometallurgical processes related to PM and Co extraction.
- Knowledge of Labware LIMS software along with a good understanding of Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Power Point, Outlook)
- Able to work on your own and make independent decisions.
- Proven ability to perform complex technical work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills along with values, building and maintaining strong working relationships with peers and team members.
