Maritime Electric Company, Limited is seeking candidates for the position of:
Utility Forester
Reporting to the Supervisor, T&D Asset Management, the Utility Forester is a key member of the Company's Operation Support team in a dynamic and challenging environment.
The Utility Forester position is responsible for vegetation inventory, vegetation management planning, and budget management. This position includes preparing work packages, contractor resource planning, work oversight and quality control. This role will ensure that vegetation contractor resources are adequately distributed to meet the workload of capital and maintenance projects. This position is also responsible for customer engagements for permission and stakeholder engagement on arboricultural practices.
Qualifications:
- The successful candidate will have a degree in forestry from a recognized university or a diploma in forest technology from a recognized school with the potential to become a registered forestry professional.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience in utility vegetation management.
- Certification as an ISA Certified Arborist or Arborist Utility Specialist is considered an asset.
Requirements:
- The successful candidate will have a strong working knowledge of materials, processes, tools and equipment used in utility vegetation management.
- Working knowledge of applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation, applicable CSA requirements, utility arborist occupational hazards and trade related safety work methods and procedures.
- Working knowledge and awareness of utility infrastructure and electrical safety.
- Working knowledge and effective use of computer programs for word processing, data collection and analysis, collaboration, budgeting and forecasting.
- Working knowledge of GIS, collecting, analyzing and presenting information in a geographic format.
- Forestry background, including tree identification skills, basic tree physiology, tree insect and disease issues, and vegetation maintenance requirements.
Success in this role requires strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to work with people at all levels of the organization.
This position offers a competitive and comprehensive compensation and benefits package. The pay range for this position is between $75,000 and $85,000 per annum.
