Demands, duties, qualifications
The Social Worker III is an advanced clinical position responsible for the delivery, monitoring and evaluation of a Mobile Crisis Response Teams (MCRT) and is part of a stepped-care approach to mental health and addictions services throughout the province. The MCRT is based on the Memphis Model which is a collaborative approach whereby police and mental health professionals, together, respond to mental health crises in the community. The incumbent will work closely with police agencies in the implementation and ongoing operations of the service. Additionally, The Social Worker III provides single-session therapy using a broad range of single-session, brief intervention, and postmodern theoretical frameworks and conducts professional analysis of complex situations. The Social Worker III will mentor and provide consultation to clinicians of the Mental Health and Addictions Program who offer single-session walk-in services. This position exercises a significant degree of independent clinical judgment in providing appropriate clinical consultation to other clinic team members and in developing take away treatment plans for individuals. This position may be involved in the delivery of a range of mental health & addictions services including the offering of individual, group, and family therapy. This position reports to the Mental Health & Addictions Program Manager responsible for the service.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation with a Master's Degree in Social Work from an approved/recognized school of social work is required;
  • Current and continuing practicing licensure with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW) is required;
  • Minimum of 5 year's experience working in Mental Health & Addictions program areas;
  • Advanced clinical assessment skills, advanced crisis intervention skills, and therapeutic counselling experience with individuals, couples, families, or willingness to complete (within timeframe designated by employer);
  • Experience with clinical practice evaluation and research design methodology is required, or willingness to complete;
  • Demonstrated advanced clinical skills in assessment, critical/reflexive thinking, leadership, as well as oral and written communication is necessary;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team is required;
  • Valid driver's license;
  • The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check;

Duties
:(Included but not limited to)

  • Attend mental health crisis calls in the community, in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP);
  • Provide assessment and clinical intervention in crisis situations;
  • Participate in clinical case conferencing activities and community mental health research for quality assurance purposes;
  • Provide therapeutic counselling services to individuals who present with a mental health crisis to the Emergency Room or are admitted to Inpatient Services;
  • Conduct mental health assessments and work as an integral member of an interdisciplinary team within the hospital and community setting;
  • Provide follow-up care to service users, including mental health wellness checks;
  • Provide clinical consultation to other clinic team members of MCRT.
  • Provide clinical services such as screening, comprehensive assessments, treatment application and follow-up, as well as other interventions as part of an interdisciplinary team;
  • Documents as per professional and organizational standards;
  • Participates in the orientation, mentorship and field supervision of new staff and/or students;
  • Represents social workers on various committees as required;
  • Participates in quality assurance initiatives as requested/required;
  • Practices independently according to professional and organizational standards;
  • Flexible work schedule is required; often having to complete duties after routine hours of mental health services operation have ended;
  • Other related duties as required.
