Job Title: Maintenance Supervisor

Meridia is excited to partner with Maritime Paper in their search for a Maintenance Supervisor who will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of their main corrugated facility in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Role Description

Reporting to the Manager of Capital Infrastructure and Facilities, the Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for supervising a team of maintenance technicians, ensuring that machinery and equipment are operating efficiently and safely. Your focus will be on executing preventive maintenance programs, addressing mechanical and electrical issues, and ensuring timely repairs to minimize downtime. As you work closely with your team and other departments, you will help develop a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the maintenance team to achieve outcomes while coaching and developing their capabilities.
  • Implementing and sustaining maintenance processes including spare parts, CMMS, and TPM.
  • Leading the maintenance scheduling and planning functions, working towards 90% or greater planned work vs. reactive work.
  • Developing, managing, and continuously improving the asset reliability program to maximize asset availability and total life cycle value.
  • Implementing reliability analytics and reliability-centered maintenance (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) to transform maintenance from reactive to proactive performance.
  • Administering all site maintenance shop policies and practices.
  • Collaborating with operations, maintenance, engineering, reliability personnel, and suppliers to ensure the reliability of equipment on all existing and new assets.
  • Leading the site implementation of reliability improvements, managing site contractors, and assisting in the development of end-of-life asset replacement plans.
  • Motivating and engaging employees through our strategic vision, coaching/feedback cycles, while promoting an action-oriented culture and clear two-way communication.
  • Modeling and driving an attitude and mindset of technical excellence and continuous improvement while championing key processes and techniques, e.g., performance management, self-directed work teams, and asset reliability.
  • Creating an environment that motivates the team to use their talents and energy. Building the team's capabilities to create a sustainable talent pipeline for leadership and technical skills.
  • Being on call as needed, including being on site for specific operations/situations.
  • Promoting and instilling an OH&S culture, ensuring employees follow all safety protocols.

Qualifications

You have a solid background in industrial or electrical maintenance, with a strong mechanical aptitude and experience in supervising maintenance teams. Your hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, combined with your problem-solving skills, has prepared you to lead a team and ensure equipment reliability. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where safety and efficiency are top priorities.

Your qualifications include:

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in an industrial setting, maintenance supervision is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, organize and carry out work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with planning and scheduling experience
  • Previous experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems would be an asset.
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment (co-workers, suppliers, etc.)
  • Demonstrated Project Management and Continuous Improvement skills.
  • Advanced business acumen and ability to influence decisions.
  • Ability to work autonomously and deliver significant impact in a fast-paced environment against changing priorities with limited resources.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills
  • Effective training skills.
  • Knowledge of equipment servicing, planning/scheduling, mechanical and electrical maintenance, and plant/project engineering.
  • Understanding of Maintenance and reliability planning.
  • Knowledge of Predictive Maintenance tools and techniques.
  • Application of reliability analytics and statistical models (e.g., Weibull Analysis), and predictive maintenance techniques are an asset.
  • Knowledge of problem-solving techniques (Statistical Process Control, Root Cause Failure Analysis, etc.).
  • Knowledge of PLCs, drives, motors, and instrumentation.
