The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to join our Human Resources team in Toronto, Ontario. This is an 18-month, fixed term position, working a hybrid work schedule.

This position formulates strategic partnerships between HR and designated business units to deliver valuable services that align with business strategies and objectives to management and employees. The HRBP works as a strategic business partner and internal advisor with assigned business clients and helps to drive initiatives that impact employee engagement, organizational efficiency, organizational change, talent management, talent acquisition, performance, and culture.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Serve as the single HR point of contact for assigned client areas locally, nationally, or globally in both a unionized and corporate environment
  • Provide coaching, guidance and creative solutions to managers on all HR related matters, including organizational planning and design, policy interpretation, staff development, disciplinary and performance issues etc. to ensure engagement and compliance.
  • Efficiently plan and execute people initiatives that contribute to company performance and delivers business value while supporting the development of Vale's expected key behaviors, diversity and inclusion, and safety goals.
  • Drive and lead the roll out of corporate wide initiatives with client area. For example, annual career & succession process and the annual compensation review.
  • Read and interpret local collective agreements, manage grievance process and provide support on labour relations matters to leaders.
  • Support legal counsel in the various legal processes.
  • Knowledgeable in various Employment Legislations: Human Rights, Employment Standards Act, and Labour Relations Act.

About You

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree with a specialization in Human Resources.
  • CHRL / CPHR is preferred.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a similar role.
  • Labour relations experience in a union represented employee population.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills with the expectation to support and persuade people through applying HR knowledge and/or well-reasoned arguments.
  • Ability to work well with both internal and cross-functional teams to ensure company goals and objectives are met and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Collaborative individual who can work across multiple functions.
  • Experience working across cultures.
  • Organization Skills: ability to efficiently manage individual workload with minimal direction.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Word and Excel
