Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this position is the main point of contact to management, non-management/non-bargaining unit and bargaining unit employees within NLSchools operations for all human resource (HR) advisory related activities that may arise in a unionized/non-unionized environment. The Manager of Human Resources will take a proactive approach to problem solving by identifying issues, seeking and recommending solutions as well as developing strategies to address specific issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing guidance, interpretation and ensuring compliance of relevant legislation, policies and collective agreement language to applicable stakeholders;
- Resolving and/or coaching applicable stakeholders in resolving employee/labour relations and HR issues;
- Investigating complex workplace and harassment investigations, compiling investigation reports and carrying out disciplinary action when required;
- Conducting mediation services to assist in the resolution of workplace conflicts using appropriate alternative dispute resolution methods;
- Facilitating grievance resolution meetings on behalf of NLSchools;
- Conducting research, maintaining grievance files with supporting documentation and settling grievances in conjunction with the Director of Human Resources;
- Participating and preparing for arbitrations in conjunction with NLSchools Solicitor, compiling all necessary supporting documentation;
- Participating in the development of NLSchools HR related policies and programming;
- Supporting and coaching stakeholders in the administration and management of employee attendance/leave management processes;
- Managing NLSchools integrated disability management programming for employees including early and safe return to work programs, workplace accommodations, functional assessments, etc.;
- Managing NLSchools recruitment and selection process for Management/Non-Bargaining, Teaching and Support staff from the inception to job offer;
- Providing direction and ensuring compliance of the compensation and classifications policies and procedures.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Possess strong communication (written and oral), critical thinking/analytical, conflict resolution, time-management and organizational skills;
- Possess strong leadership, coaching and advisory skills to a variety of stakeholders;
- Be able to work both independently and in a team capacity;
- Be able to work under pressure to meet multiple competing deadlines;
- Be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
- Demonstrate a high degree of sound judgment and professionalism;
- Demonstrate knowledge and experience in the management of HR functions, delivery of services and programs, and HR best practices.
Qualifications
- Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce or equivalent with a concentration in human resources/labor relations.
- Recent and relevant experience in HR management and labor relations in a unionized environment would be an asset.
- Equivalencies may be considered.
