Definition of work:
Reporting to the Provincial Manager, Provincial Health Emergency and Continuity Management within the Provincial Integrated Protective Services Department, this position is accountable for leading the development, implementation and sustainability of Central Zones Emergency Management and Continuity Management (HECM) Program. The Coordinator will work with other provincial, Zone based HECM Coordinators to further develop and continue implementation of a comprehensive provincial HECM Plan and will work collaboratively with all departments and sites within Central Zone to ensure emergency and business continuity planning, including ensuring that pandemic and disaster planning are proactive, remain current, consistent, incorporate best practices, and meet the requirements of relevant legislation. Plans will be based on information obtained from hazard identification, risk assessment and business impact analysis and must be aligned with Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services Strategic Plan as well as program ideology, municipal and provincial government emergency plans. Working closely with relevant organization leadership, the Coordinator will also be responsible and accountable to continually assess and evaluate Central Zone's state of readiness for disaster and emergency response by developing an organizational plan for communication, education and testing of disaster and emergency protocol. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Required qualifications:
-Post-secondary degree in a relevant health-related discipline.
-Certified training in Emergency/Disaster Management.
-Experience with hazard identification and mitigation, risk assessment and impact analysis and related knowledge of the principles of prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
-Recent experience of emergency exercise development and delivery experience.
-Experience in delivering adult education programming, including the development of education material for broad audiences.
-Experience leading and facilitating groups of people.
-Experience in planning, time management, and documentation.
-Knowledgeable of the health care system. Experience in both acute and community-related health care would be preferred.
-Knowledge on current trends and practices in emergency management and the ability and willingness to keep current with best practice evidence.
-Knowledge and experience in Fire/Life Safety and relevant Legislation and Codes.
-Knowledge of planning processes and a commitment to quality improvement.
-Knowledge of business continuity management principles.
-Knowledge and understanding of the interrelated nature of departments and programs in a health care setting.
-Knowledge and understanding of the importance of integration between Health Emergency Management and Security roles
-Ability to work with others in stressful situations.
-Demonstrated strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
-Demonstrated experience in writing and presenting policy documents.
-Demonstrated strong interpersonal, leadership, problem solving and communication skills.
-Demonstrated ability to lead and work well within an interdisciplinary team.
-Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task.
