Demands, duties, qualifications

Job Summary
Reporting to the Director, Cardiac Care, the Division Manager is responsible for providing direction, guidance and support to staff located within the CVOR and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) located at the Health Science Centre.

The Division Manager establishes performance expectations through providing feedback and guidance to the department and individuals while encouraging professional development activities and completing regular performance evaluations. The Division Manager identifies staffing requirements, and monitors and interprets staff utilization. The Division Manager participates in recruitment processes and ensures fair and consistent application of the applicable collective agreements. The Division Manager is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating key directions, objectives, and strategies, quality, risk and safety initiatives for patients and staff in a dynamic environment. Accountabilities also include efficient and effective planning, implementing, organizing, and evaluating patient-care activities and ensuring quality services are provided.

The Division Manager will work within the NL Health Services Leadership Framework with accountabilities to engage others and lead self, achieve results, develop coalitions and implement systems transformations within the assigned areas of responsibility. These include working within the Divisions lines of business, fiscal and resource stewardship, managing and developing staff, effective communication, quality and risk management and health workplace management.

Occasionally moves or lifts objects between 1- 5 lbs. such as pens, paper, file folders, or boxes.
Constantly sits at a desk performing paper/computer work, answering telephone calls or emails; occasionally walks or stands to observe or to consult with other staff or sits conducting interviews.
Regularly performs fine finger/precision computer work requiring steadiness and accurate movement/control.
Visual and hearing concentration is required to observe or consult with staff, to work on documents or to listen to staff on the telephone or in person.

Job Qualifications

Education
Baccalaureate Degree in a health related discipline is required.
Master's Degree is preferred.

Experience
A minimum of five (5) years' experience within the last seven (7) years in adult acute care is required.
Previous management experience is an asset.
Experience in Cardiac/Critical Care is considered an asset.

Operating room experience is considered an asset.

Knowledge and proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of applications.

Other
Current registration/licensure in the relevant professional association is required.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
