About the role

The Facilities Coordinator provides support for Municipally owned infrastructure, facilities, and projects as well as providing administrative support, planning and coordinating of Engineering and Public Works services.

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Under the supervision of the Manager/Director, manage operations of building control systems, including access control/security, fire alarm, HVAC, solar, lighting, electrical distribution, generators, plumbing, energy, and others.
  • Conduct minor facility maintenance and repairs as needed and report same to Manager/Director.
  • Provide oversight for facility and systems compliance such as maintaining a fuel storage database, maintaining provincial pressure vessel certification, and potable water testing.
  • Supervise the cleaning function of municipally owned facilities, including providing day-to-day supervision of staff and contractors.
  • Consult, plan and carry out field visits and make recommendations regarding the location of new and existing municipal infrastructure.
  • Assist with interpretation of designs and preparation of reports, logs, etc. to document inspection procedures, deficiencies found and resolution of deficiencies.
  • Take a leadership role in promoting a safety culture in all MODL workplaces.
  • Ensure comprehensive documentation of the safety program is maintained.
  • Work in conjunction with the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee to complete regular safety inspections (e.g. fire extinguishers, facility inspections).

This position requires a positive communicator with the ability to actively listen to build relationships with staff and contractors. You are handy with tools and equipment, and enjoy finding solutions. You have a focus on customer service and enjoy working with others using a collaborative approach. Is this you?

As the ideal candidate you possess the following:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary education in a relevant field (e.g. red seal; building systems, industrial systems, CET); and
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in facility management; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of two-years supervisory experience.
  • Experience in budgeting and forecasting expenditures.
  • Knowledge of automated building systems.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations and quality standards (Building Codes, HVAC, Construction, Electrical, Plumbing, etc.).
  • Knowledge of construction fundamentals, best practices and safe work programs for maintenance and construction of buildings and facilities.
  • Above average computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and problem solve under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to clarify facts, give information, respond to complaints and supervise contractors.
  • A valid Nova Scotia driver's license and access to reliable vehicle.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Conditions of Employment

  • Permanent, Full-time
  • Based on 35-hour work week
  • Salary: $62,693 to $78,367 (Band 60 - Specialist) commensurate with qualifications and experience.
