Demands, duties, qualifications
The primary purpose of this position is to have knowledge to carry out maintenance work on all Labrador Grenfell Health Buildings, grounds, machinery, and equipment located in Goose Bay area. Work assignments are received orally and through written instructions. This position reports directly to the Maintenance Team Leader through the Regional Director of Physical Infrastructure Support.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from High School or Equivalency preferred, or a willingness to complete a competency test prior to hire.
  • Some experience at the semi-skilled level in building, electrical or mechanical trades.
  • Some knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and practices used in the building, electrical and mechanical trades.
  • Some knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of several trades.
  • Class 05, 08 and 04 Driver's License.
  • CPR/Standard First Aid or willing to complete within a reasonable time frame to be set by the employer.
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods certificate or willing to complete within a reasonable time.
  • The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct.

Duties
: (Included but not limited to)

  • Perform a limited variety of simple and/or routine maintenance tasks (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Pipe Fitting, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Steam Boiler Maintenance.)
  • Maintains and repairs electrical system components, i.e., replaces switches, light bulbs, and helps electrician in major electrical maintenance and repair work, oils and adjusts electric motors.
  • Perform miscellaneous other maintenance tasks, including minor welding projects, furniture repair, landscaping, assist replacing window, doors, doorknob, and countertops.
  • Mixes and applies plaster to walls and ceilings, paints building walls, rooms or other surfaces as assigned, lays floor and wall tiles.
  • Mixes cement and lays concrete footings, refurbishes concrete walkways when needed.
  • Services and cleans the Labrador Grenfell Health maintenance vehicle and reports any problems that occurs with the vehicle to the site manager.
  • Maintains Labrador Grenfell Health grounds, mows lawns and shovels snow at the health centre and accommodations if necessary.
  • Snow clearing with loader and driving long term care bus.
  • Assist trades personnel with any major repair work.
  • Other related duties as required.
