Hours of work will follow the flexible work schedule in accordance with article 19.01(a) of the NAPE-HP Collective Agreement based on 75 hours bi-weekly (by mutual agreement).

Salary CG-39 of the NAPE-HP salary scales $37.94 - $42.46 per hour, plus the applicable Labrador Allowance.

Demands, duties, qualifications
The Social Worker I is a clinical position on the Mobile Crisis Response Teams (MCRT) and is part of a stepped-care approach to mental health and addictions services throughout the province. The MCRT is based on the Memphis Model which is a collaborative approach whereby police and mental health professionals, together, respond to mental health crises in the community. The incumbent will work closely with police agencies in the implementation and ongoing operations of the service. When necessary, the Social Worker will also provide Doorways services and work with the Flexible Assertive Community Treatment Team (FACTT). This position reports to the Mental Health & Addictions Program Manager responsible for the service.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Social Work
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in assessment and counselling preferred;
  • Experience in mental health and/or addictions, including individual, family and group counselling;
  • Experience in crisis intervention, suicide intervention, and the ability to respond to the emergent needs of clients;
  • Strong analytical, facilitation, written and oral communication skills;
  • This position exercises a significant degree of independent clinical judgment;
  • Eligibility for registration with the NLCSW;
  • Valid driver's license;
  • The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct

Duties: (Included but not limited to):

  • Attend mental health crisis calls in the community, in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and provide assessment and clinical intervention competently and calmly to ensure a quality service.
  • Participate in clinical case conferencing activities and community mental health research and quality assurance.
  • Provide walk-in, Doorways services to individuals who present to the community clinic during regular working hours.
  • The incumbent will conduct mental health assessments, obtain collateral information from nursing/medical staff, family members, etc and coordinate with other disciplines and available community resources to provide follow-up care,to enhance service to clients.
  • This position will also work with the Flexible Assertive Community Treatment Team (FACT); this includes counseling individuals and family members regarding behavioral modifications, system management, rehabilitation, social adjustment and financial assistance.
  • Documentation of all patient contacts and outcomes is also required.
  • Provide clinical consultation to other clinic team members and to individuals who are seeking or requiring service. These clinical services include, screening, comprehensive assessments, treatment and intervention in the context of an interdisciplinary team, etc.
  • Other related duties as required, travel may be required, may be required to work alone.
