Under the direction of the Director, Retail Banking (CB) & Global Wealth Management (GWM) Treasury, this role is accountable for assisting in ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed and delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Support the Retail Banking & GWM Treasury team in managing FTP, capital, liquidity and funding requirements associated with the business activity of Retail Banking & GWM with the goal of optimizing balance sheet and funding utilization of the business units.
  • Support the Director, Retail & GWM Treasury, in providing strategic direction on the optimal utilization of the business line's allocated capital, liquidity and funding across the sub business lines and products, and the resulting composition of the domestic balance sheet.
  • Assist the Director, Retail & GWM Treasury , to position the domestic balance sheet to meet customer demand, within the context of market conditions, and to maximize business line's return on allocated capital and earnings, within internal and regulatory constraints.
  • Assist the Retail Banking & GWM Treasurer, in monitoring and challenging the business line's balance sheet to ensure that actions taken are producing the appropriate and expected results. Key metrics used for this purpose include:
    • Net Interest Margin
    • Wholesale Funding Utilization
    • Liquidity Risk, as captured by business line LCR, NSFR and NCCF
  • Identify and execute on opportunities to optimize the Balance Sheet of the broader Bank / Retail Banking / GWM
  • Monitor business line customer pricing against FTP and WSF levels to guide business line strategy
  • Support CB & GWM ALCO materials and scheduling.
  • Support the delivery of ad-hoc and strategic analysis / presentations to senior management with respect to capital, liquidity and related metrics for individual businesses within the division.
  • Support the review of regulatory changes through a Treasury lens and how they impact the Retail Banking & GWM business units and assist in liaising with the businesses on the internal application of these proposals.
  • Provide project management support, by regularly evaluating progress of projects, liaising with the different groups involved to identify and resolve issues to ensure objectives are met or surpassed.
  • Support Bank-wide initiatives such as the ESG and DEI.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, mathematics or economics
  • Master's degree, recognized Professional designation in a specialized area of finance or business (CFA/Accounting) completed or underway, is an asset
  • Experience in a related field Treasury, Liquidity Risk Management or Treasury Strategy role at a bulge bracket bank
  • Understanding of CB and GWM business line products and FTP methodologies
  • Knowledge of functions and activities including liquidity and funding risks associated with secured funding, prime brokerage, derivatives and commitments products
  • Awareness of banking regulations (LCR, NSFR, NCCF) and sound practices (Basel, OSFI, etc.)
  • Ability to understand the regulatory environment in Canada and consider potential effects on investment, liquidity, structural risk and ALM activities
  • Ability to review balance sheet and business funding usage including forecasting
  • Proficient at Microsoft Excel (modelling, analysis, forecasting) and Powerpoint (presentations to senior management)
  • Results driven with the ability to deal with complex issues
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and project management skills and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
  • Superior communication skills with ability to influence executives across the organization
