Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri | 7:30 am - 4:00 pm | 40 hours per week
Additional Working Conditions:
- Ability to carry out physical requirements of the position, including the ability to lift heavy objects, and work at heights and in confined spaces.
- A telephone for callouts in the event of inclement weather and emergencies.
Salary Range: $22.90 per hour
YOUR FOCUS
Reporting to the Operations Foreperson, the Labourer performs manual work in the performance of semi-skilled tasks, of a physically demanding nature. This position includes a degree of skill in moving and transporting materials and equipment, lawn maintenance and snow removal, with direction from the Operations Foreperson or alternate.
- Shovel snow as directed from steps, walkways, fire hydrants, building roofs, or other areas. Sand and salt steps and walkways, as well as other areas as directed.
- Assist crews on snow removal equipment, loaders, trucks equipped with snow removal attachments, etc.
- Cut and trim grass, shrubs, and hedges by hand or with power equipment. Rake and load leaves, trimmings, and other refuse.
- Assist with repairing and building lawns, landscaping, and building retaining walls.
- Maintain general cleanliness around the campus, including picking up paper and refuse and sweeping sidewalks, streets, and parking lots.
- Assist with general repairs of streets, walkways, and parking lots, which include the application of asphalt.
- Occasionally operate light vehicles or small tractors to complete daily tasks.
- Assist with re-lamping of light fixtures in gyms, pool, and dining halls.
- Inspect and clear roof drains, tunnels, catch basins, and other areas as directed.
- Load and unload trucks and carry heavy cartons or equipment from transportation facilities to storage or building sites.
- Set up or remove materials and furniture for special events and office renovations or relocations.
- Maintain sports fields as directed, using push and/or ride-on mowers.
- Ensure the application of safety precautions/procedures as required to ensure minimum hazard to self and others.
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation as well as the care and preservation of assigned tools and equipment.
- Perform other related duties as required.
WHAT YOU BRING
- High School Diploma, or equivalent.
Additional Strengths
- Knowledge of maintenance tools and equipment.
- Knowledge/training of occupational hazards and safety practices for heavy lifting/labour.
- A valid class five (5) Driver's License is considered an asset.
