Purpose


Member of the Product Manager team within Scotia Global Asset Management in Canada ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed and delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Assists the senior team members in supporting an assigned group of Portfolio Managers to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank channels, external distribution opportunities, systems, and knowledge.
  • Assists with the development of the team's assigned Portfolio Managers mandates and contribute to the creation of a strong brand positioning for the teams across all asset classes and geographical regions.
  • Contributes to the development of an overall plan for product coverage across assigned Portfolio Manager teams and ensures consistency of message across all channels.
  • Assists as required with the production of specific research and reporting on a variety of topics as relevant to the assigned Portfolio Managers.
  • Represent, where appropriate, the assigned Portfolio Managers as the main point of contact to internal clients on any investment related queries thus needing a developing knowledge of financial markets, investment products and capabilities.
  • Support business development activities: preparing client-specific research, briefing notes and preparing slide packs as required and as assigned.
  • Attend investment discussions as required and team meetings as necessary.
  • Strong collaboration skills across key groups including trading, legal, compliance, fund operations, marketing and fund administrators.
  • Assist in the formulation of key messaging to the market and be an effective communicator of this messaging both verbally and in written format.
  • Work towards becoming a subject matter expert on the assigned Portfolio Managers activities by participating in internal investment and asset management meetings in order to be able to communicate the assigned group's activities effectively to investors and the market.
  • Support the build-out and ongoing maintenance of the assigned Portfolio Managers investor base across core channels.
  • Execute on special projects as they arise (if appropriate).
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Contribute to an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We'd love to work with you if you have:
• Enrollment in a CFA Designation an asset;
• Undergraduate degree in finance, business, economics or equivalent work experience;
• Ideal entry level position with up to 5 plus years of experience working in the asset management industry;
• Emerging knowledge of financial markets and investment process / strategy and positioning;
• Developing communication skills through written and verbal forums to communicate with a strength in dealing with a wide variety of individuals at various levels within and outside the organization including peers, sales teams and advisors;
• Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, global environment and to adapt quickly to changing priorities;
• Good organizational skills and capability to effectively manage priorities while meeting timelines;
• Proactive self-starter who can handle pressure effectively and has experience working with senior management teams.
• Team-oriented; demonstrates a commitment to shared success above any personal accomplishment or recognition.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
• Proficiency with Morningstar Direct or Bloomberg an asset
