The TDAF Commercial team is focused on auto dealers across the country, providing comprehensive solutions to meet their banking needs. Credit exposure across the portfolio includes real estate and acquisition financing, operating credit, floor plan financing, lease lines and equipment finance.

Transactions can range significantly in size and complexity from ~$15mm for small, single location dealers to +$500mm for large dealer groups.

TDAF's goal is to become Canada's #1 auto lender. TDAF Retail and Commercial combined is over 900 people including sales teams located coast to coast, as well as teams in credit adjudication, funding, inside sales, loan administration, customer service, collections and recovery.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Vice President, Credit & Dealer Operations, the AVP Credit (National) is responsible for national leadership of the credit teams managing credit and operational risk related to our core accounts, including four Senior Managers Commercial Credit and their teams of credit analysts who support TDAF's Ontario/Atlantic, Quebec and Western units.

Key accountabilities:

  • Risk management including credit adjudication and operational risk mitigation for TDAF Commercial's "mid-market" portfolios nationally. This is a large, complex portfolio with ~$5.5B drawn loans, including ~$2.3B of traditional commercial loans and ~$3.2B floor plan/lease exposure.
  • As part of the TDAF Commercial leadership team, this role will work closely with the Commercial Sales and Operations leaders to support the TDAF business strategy to drive growth. Work with all business partners to facilitate an environment that allows TD to compete in the commercial automotive market.
  • Ensure the Bank's Risk Appetite is respected, exposure is reasonable relative to the current Commercial Auto market, and adherence to Policies & Procedures is maintained.
  • Manage Monitoring and Control functions to ensure portfolio risk is monitored effectively.
  • Build for the future by attracting, motivating, and retaining a highly qualified and diverse human resource base to achieve business objectives.
  • Provide training to improve knowledge of the team and our business partners (incl. CCRM). Support an increase in the Commercial Auto knowledge broadly in the organization by cultivating talent that can be exported to other areas within the Bank.
  • Provide additional adjudication capacity within the TDAF Commercial Credit team on complex & syndicated credits.

Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Business, Economics, Finance, or other quantitative disciplines (MBA or CFA would be as asset)
  • 10 years of commercial lending experience including credit management roles.
  • Strong communication skills with a positive approach that can liaise with cross functional teams, colleagues, partners, and employees.
  • Successful people management experience including effective coaching, supporting career development of your staff.
  • Experience in cash flow lending and understanding of enterprise value-based credit structures.
  • Results oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Automotive financing experience is an asset.
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset.
