Job Title: Line Manager, Transmission & Distribution (South)
Location: Hay River, NT

Our client, Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) is looking to add an experienced Line Manager, Transmission & Distribution (South) to their talented team within NTPC's Southern service area. Located in beautiful Hay River, NT, NTPC's mission is to generate, transmit and distribute clean, reliable and affordable energy to the Northwest Territories.

Role Description
Reporting to the Director, Transmission & Distribution, the Line Manager will provide direct supervision and team leadership to the Transmission & Distribution (TD) division. You will be responsible for the daily operations of the Southern TD Division, ensuring that the organization's values are effectively communicated and embraced by all employees. You will lead the team towards achieving divisional goals and objectives, including setting performance objectives, assigning duties, and conducting performance assessments, all aimed at delivering outstanding results.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise line crews in the maintenance and construction of power transmission and distribution lines, stations, and vegetation management throughout the Territory.
  • Ensure a safe work environment, adhering to NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs, reporting hazards, and conducting detailed safety orientations for visitors.
  • Lead the continuous improvement of NTPC's safety culture and environmental programs, promoting health and safety compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Corporate Services, Finance, and Asset Management) to ensure accurate job estimation, invoicing, and review of timesheets and travel claims.
  • Assist in the preparation and management of the annual operating budget and maintenance plans for transmission and distribution facilities in the Territory.
  • Schedule and oversee crew work activities, tool maintenance, and equipment testing, ensuring compliance with safety and legislative requirements.
  • Liaise with customers, public agencies, and community representatives to address transmission and distribution issues while maintaining positive relationships.
  • Monitor and approve material and service requisitions and oversee contractor purchase orders for timely and cost-effective operations.
  • Conduct and lead safety meetings, investigate incidents, and ensure adherence to Work Protection procedures and NTPC Construction Standards.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, update transmission and distribution drawings, and ensure line crews have access to current reference materials.
  • Occasionally participate in hands-on construction or maintenance work as required by operational needs.
  • Oversee staff recruitment, job description preparation, training, and performance evaluation in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Manage operating and maintenance requirements for vehicles and equipment assigned to the line department.
  • Direct vegetation management operations to ensure compliance with right-of-way parameters and cycle growth mitigation.
  • Manage and coordinate capital projects from planning to completion, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and providing regular project updates.
  • Provide technical advice and support to the Projects and Engineering Division and Finance Division on operational needs, project scope, and budget administration.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate you hold a recognized Power Lineperson certification coupled with significant experience in a utility-based transmission or distribution environment, with several years in a team lead or supervisory role. Strong leadership skills, proven ability to manage teams, and excellent problem-solving abilities are essential. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are also crucial.

Your qualifications include:

  • A Power Lineperson Certification from a recognized institution.
  • Significant utility-based transmission and distribution experience, including multiple years in a supervisory/managerial role.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and email; experience with AutoCAD and/or GIS systems is an asset.
  • Strong oral and written communication, problem solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Familiarity with and commitment to safety regulations and industry standards.
  • This role may require lifting, carrying, and moving heavy materials and equipment.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License; Class 3 Driver's License is preferred.
  • Ability to manage daily operational stress, customer complaints, and emergencies.
  • Must be available for "on-call" duty on a rotational basis.
  • Please note to be eligible for this role you must have legal permission to work in Canada.
  • Must be able to provide a satisfactory criminal record check; minimum of two (2) references with at least one being most recent/current manager or supervisor; and proof of PLT certification and drivers license.
