Demands, duties, qualifications
Definition of work:
Reporting to the Provincial Director of Learning, Support and Development, this position will promote quality evidence-based nursing practice through education and professional development of Internationally Educated Nurses. The incumbent will work in a hospital setting to facilitate the clinical integration process (orientation/preceptorship) for primarily Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs). This position will collaborate with unit leadership and staff to facilitate role clarity and team processes with IEN to provide high quality, patient, and family-centered care.

The Nursing Instructor I provides direction in the clinical setting to IENs through simulation, continuing education and clinical support during orientation and preceptorship periods (e.g., equipment, documentation, patient assessment/evaluation, and time management) including tracking and documenting of skills and competencies. The position collaborates with nurses and the interprofessional team during orientation and preceptorship to support the learning needs of IENs; provides visible clinical instruction and acts as a role model for staff to support the integration strategy for IENs in the clinical environment. The Nursing Instructor I provides safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of NLHS.

Qualifications:
* Graduation from an approved school of nursing with a baccalaureate degree.
* Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
* Minimum of five years current clinical experience.
* Two years' experience in nursing education and training.
* Experience in the facilitation of team and change process.
* Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
* A working knowledge of nursing professional standards, nursing policies, issues, and trends.
* Proficient in the use of basic computer programs including Microsoft Office;
* Current certification in Basic Life Support (CPR);
* Demonstrated ability to both lead and collaborate as a team member in a patient and family centered clinical setting.
* Previous experience in teaching/working with clinical learners and /or precepting.
* Demonstrated ability to evaluate clinical learners, as well as orient to hospital policies, rules, and regulations.
* The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory Certificate of Conduct & Vulnerable Sector Check.

Duties: (Included but not limited to)
* Provides education support to nurses by responding to identified learning needs based on clinical best practice, professional standards, and performance deficits. Support includes the development of individualized learning plans and the evaluation of clinical competence.
* Plans, develops, delivers, and evaluates educational programming to help prepare staff for implementation of nursing model, programs, and clinical practices, including leadership training, programming to enable nursing staff to work to their full scopes of practice, and other role training as required to support nurses in the practice environment.
* Maintains professional standards of practice respecting the needs of the adult learner, through the demonstration of effective clinical, teaching and leadership skills and participation in the development, implementation and evaluation of clinical practice, policies, and procedures.
* Works collaboratively with managers, leaders, departments, and professional groups to facilitate successful navigation through the change process.
* Fosters an environment that utilizes effective strategies to integrate research into clinical practice.
* Provides consultative services to internal and external partners to enhance professional practice.
*Promotes an environment of excellence and continuous improvement in support of a quality culture.
* Development of nursing self-learning practices utilizing evidence-based practices.
* Travel will be required.
* Other related duties.
