Demands, duties, qualifications
Definition of Work:
This is a highly professional nursing position responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, evaluation, and follow-up of clients in the Emergency Department of the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre. The Nurse Practitioner will work in consultation and collaboration with the Emergency Room Physicians/Chief of Emergency Medicine. This position reports directly to the Regional Program Director for ER/ICU/Medicine Services. The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive and holistic emergency nursing care to clients including health promotion, injury and illness treatment and prevention, supportive, curative, and rehabilitative care. As an advanced practitioner, the Nurse Practitioner functions in the roles of practitioner, educator, and leader. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.

Required qualifications:
• Graduation from a Nurse Practitioner program approved by Central Health.
• Current Nurse Practitioner License and registration with the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
• Current BLS certification for health care providers from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
• Must have completed or be willing to complete next available course of ACLS, PALS, TNCC and NRP.
• Demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities, problem solving skills, organizational skills as well as oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to practice both independently and in collaboration with the other members of the interdisciplinary health care team.
• Consistent demonstration of the core values of NL Health Services: Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE)
• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
• A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in Emergency Nursing.
• CNA certification in Emergency.
