Definition of work:
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible to provide comprehensive assessment and care to clients. This is an advance practice role providing professional, analytical and an autonomous, comprehensive range of health services to clients and patients including but not limited to health assessments and diagnosis of diseases, disorders, injuries and conditions; treating and managing acute and chronic illnesses and identifying health risks and needs within the Dr. Huge Twomey Health Centre. This position will be a blended role, supporting Acute Care Services, Primary Health Care, Long Term Care and Emergency Services which may include the Fast Track Stream of Care and Virtual Care Stream. Optimizing alternate care modalities such as virtual technology will be an option to increase accessibility to primary health care in the region.
The NP will provide advanced nursing care including health promotion and prevention and chronic disease management for common resident health issues in collaboration with physicians and other members of the multidisciplinary team. The NP will work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team to develop, lead, implement and evaluate best practice. The NP will work with the Clinical Nurse Educator/Facilitator in the development and evaluation of policies, standards of care and clinical services for residents at the Dr. Huge Twomey Health Centre. The NP will assume a leadership role in influencing clinical practice and patient outcomes and collaborate with the broader healthcare team and community partners regarding complex and challenging care situations. The NP will promote a person and family centered philosophy to care and establish a preventative, integrated, approach that is driven by individualized assessment of needs and individual choice. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Required qualifications:
• Graduation from a nurse practitioner program approved by Central Health.
• Current registration as a nurse practitioner with the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
• Current BLS certification.
• Airway Management training or willingness to complete next available training opportunity.
• Completion or willingness to complete next available course in ACLS, PALS, TNCC and NRP.
• Gentle Persuasive Approach or willingness to complete next available course.
• CNA certification in Gerontology or willingness to complete next available course.
• Demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and problem-solving skills as well as oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work well independently and in an interdisciplinary team environment.
• Consistent demonstration of NLHS corporate values; Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence.
• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
• A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated skill in using health care-based computer systems such as Meditech.
