Demands, duties, qualifications
Definition of work:
A Community Health Registered Nurse I combines knowledge from primary health care (including the determinants of health), nursing science, and social sciences in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care and the coordination of continuing care services in the above area. The Community Health Registered Nurse I focuses on prevention, health restoration, maintenance or palliation in the delivery of care/coordination of service to clients, designated care givers or families. The Community Health Registered Nurse I will ensure person and family centered care that wraps available resources around the individual wherever the individual resides. The Community Health Registered Nurse I will establish a preventative, integrated, person and family centered approach driven by individualized assessment of needs and individual choice to promote aging in place.The Community Health Registered Nurse I will practice utilizing the Home First philosophy in identifying, assessing and supporting individuals with complex care needs to be supported in their own home. Work is performed in accordance with the Canadian Community Health Nursing Standards of Practice and within the policies and procedures of the Central Regional Health Authority. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.

Required qualifications:
* Graduation from an approved/recognized post-secondary Nursing Education program with an undergraduate degree in Nursing or Registered Nurse with an approved Diploma in Community Health Nursing.
* Current registration with the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
* Three (3) years clinical experience.
* One (1) year experience within the last three (3) years providing and coordinating community health nursing service.
* Current BLS certification for health care providers from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
* Current Health Assessment certification or willingness to complete the next available course.
* Demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and problem-solving skills, as well as, oral and written communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work well independently and with others in an interdisciplinary team environment.
* Demonstrated initiative.
* Willing to work a flexible work schedule.
* A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 05 Driver's License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.
* Consistent demonstration of the core values of NL Health Services: Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE)
* A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
* A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.

Preferred qualifications:
* Demonstrated skill in using health care-based computer systems (CRMS, Meditech).
* CNA certification in Community Health Nursing.

Applicants who do not possess a Bachelor Degree in Nursing must be willing to complete an approved/recognized post diploma/certificate program in Public Health/Community Health at the first available opportunity as determined by the employer. The successful applicant must successfully complete the post diploma/certificate program within the program's designated timeframe and will start work in the position upon successful completion. Funding to complete the program will be provided by NLHS.
