Demands, duties, qualifications
Definition of Work:
The Power Engineer will work on all high-pressure steam related equipment within the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre including PRVs, laundry equipment, AHUs, domestic hot water systems, and MDR sterilizer, as shift in charge and maintenance and operation of the combined pressure plant including steam boilers, heating pumps, air compressors, etc. The successful candidate will be responsible for other related duties within Plant operations, including but not limited to, building equipment maintenance of various mechanical equipment such as, mechanical stretchers, hydraulic operating room tables, air compressors, pumps, bed maintenance, and other related equipment. The Power Engineer will also be orientated to Fire Panel response, operations of the Steam Plant and Emergency Power Generation, and other related maintenance duties as required. Travel throughout the region may be required. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.

* Regularly lifts/moves object up to 25 lbs. Occasionally lifts/moves >50lbs. Push/Pulling forces up to 50lbsF are required.
* Work repetitively involves reaching/stretching, bending and twisting; regular standing, walking, climbing, and being in awkward or cramped positions.
* Use of gross and fine motor skills; constant use of hand tools that require accurate control and steadiness and maintaining physical balance (e.g. ladders/scaffolding).
* Work Environments present potential for exposure to scented/chemical products and/or other allergens within publicly accessible areas.
* Work environments can present exposure to loud noises or environmental hazards; potential for exposure to blood, bodily fluids and/or other contagion. Personal protective equipment is required for specific areas.
* Maintaining a clean-shaven face can be mandated to ensure proper seal of personal protective equipment.
Required qualifications:
* Successful completion of a valid Fourth-Class Power Engineer's Certificate as issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and apply diagnostic and troubleshooting skills as required to maintain operations of equipment and facility.
* Regional Travel maybe required.
* Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.

* A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
* A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
Preferred qualifications:
* Experience working in a health care environment.
* Three (3) to five (5) years recent experience in the operation and maintenance of a Power Plant.
* Demonstrated knowledge of computer operation programs including BAS and computerized work order systems.
