Purpose:

The Manager leads and oversees the accounting team in Canada ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures as well as the delivery of process innovation and continuous improvement initiatives across multi-jurisdictions and play an important role in helping foster a culture of sustainable change.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Review and understand the current Trade Finance Operational and Accounting processes and identify gaps in accounting processes and controls.
  • Implement accounting process improvement & accounting controls to mitigate risk
  • Review and improve daily and monthly reporting. Develop reporting as required
  • Responsible for escalation of long outstanding items.
  • Post accounting entries to different bank systems.
  • Identify unreconciled position in GLs.
  • Document accurately trade finance & supply chain finance accounting processes in the Standard Operating Practice, as and when updated.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Perform other ad hoc task as and when assigned.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • University degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce.
  • CPA designation or in pursuit of designation is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of financial accounting or auditing experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office systems.

Work Arrangement: This position is currently a Hybrid role. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
