Northwood is currently accepting applications for a Full-Time Permanent Immigration Specialist

Department: People Services

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain knowledge and keep current up with Immigration legislation/policies affecting refugees and immigrants. Ensure information is communicated and implemented in a timely manner.
  • Networks, develops and maintains external partnerships with government agencies and immigration consultants.
  • Ensures all paperwork, including applications for immigration and visas are completed accurately and in a timely manner. Advises managers regarding work permits and international hires.
  • Manage the approach and processes for international recruitment ensuring appropriate immigration processes are adhered to
  • Coordinates and participates in the hiring process in conjunction with hiring managers
  • Represents organization at various functions and recruitment intitiatives including job fairs, and information sessions, etc
  • Reviews immigration procedures and legal status of foreign employees
  • Works with the Recruitment Advisors on international recruitment ensuring contracts and employment checks are completed in line with national/provincial guidance, timescales and local/national reporting requirements
  • Assists with screening and interviewing of potential international candidates
  • Manage work permit expiry notifications and ensure appropriate follow-up as required of temporary foreign worker
  • Chair the Settlement Committee; set agenda, create timelines, prepare minutes, develop and implement settlement planning for the organization
  • Develops and maintains communication links with multiple internal and external clients
  • Ensures that the needs of internal and external clients are anticipated and satisfied
  • Develops/maintains international tracking and monitoring tools to enable reporting on international recruitment
  • Performs other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Must reside in Nova Scotia
  • Undergraduate degree or diploma with a major in Human Resources or equivalent field
  • 2-3 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in recruitment and selection
  • Experience in Immigration and settlement
  • Experience in Canadian immigration case management an asset
  • Experience in public speaking or giving presentations
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Process and detail oriented including strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office required
  • CHRP considered and asset
  • Hours: 80 hours bi-weekly - Days

Salary: As per Northwood scale

Effective: Immediately
