Job Title: Full Time Recreation Programmer

Job Description: Responsible for assisting the development, organization and delivery of recreation programs that enhance the health, functional abilities, independence and quality of life for the residents.

Education Required:

  • Successful completion of a recognized Recreation Programmer's course
  • Current registration with the Nova Scotia Therapeutic Recreation Association preferred
  • Knowledge and/or skills in music, creative expression and crafts an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and the internet
  • Food Handlers course an asset
  • Current First Aid an asset
  • Education in responsive behaviors/Alzheimer's and related dementias preferred

Competencies:

  • Assist in development, organization, delivery and evaluation of recreation programs
  • Assist with assessment of residents and developing plans to meet their needs
  • Help the Chaplain and local area ministers to ensure spiritual needs of the residents are being met
  • Documenting care provided
  • Provide direction and assist in supervision of volunteers when needed
  • Effective communication both written and verbal in English with residents, families and co-workers
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy in all aspects of the organization
  • Possesses exemplary Customer Service skills
  • Reliable with good attendance and cheerful disposition
  • Must take initiative and able to work with minimum supervision
  • Respectful and hardworking team player
  • Demonstrate the use of proper body mechanics
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary environment
  • Experience in a long-term care or similar environment is considered an asset
  • Act as an ambassador for Dykeland Lodge
  • Criminal Record Check including the Vulnerable Sector Screening in the last 3 months is required

Salary Range:

  • Starting at $19.32 per hour
