Position:
The Demand Response Specialist's role is responsible for supporting our existing Demand Response program/offerings and contributing to the development of new demand response pilots and programs. Working closely with the Program Manager, the Demand Response Specialist will be responsible for monitoring and supporting the successful delivery across multiple market segments, including internal operations, client support, and stakeholder management.
Ongoing programs and pilot development include:
- Electric Vehicle (EV) Charge Control
- Thermostat Direct Load Control (DLC)
- Behind the Meter (BTM) Batteries
- Commercial and Industrial Demand Response Aggregator
- Domestic Hot Water Direct Load Control
The Demand Response Specialist should have a broad understanding and knowledge of Demand Side Management programs and measures, including experience in project management, administration, and measurement & verification, and can easily manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
A snapshot of what you will be involved with:
- Responsible for providing technical support during the operation of pilots and programs, along with assessing pilot performance.
- Responsible for performing financial analysis, forecasting, and performance reporting of demand response programs and rebates associated with programs.
- Responsible for providing support to achieve annual peak demand savings targets within given budgets.
- Responsible for research and identifying new Demand Response opportunities.
- Responsible for assisting the team with creative and technical thinking to appropriately shape demand response program development and planning.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with subcontractors and trade allies supporting our Demand Response programs.
- Responsible for maintaining a general knowledge of all Efficiency Nova Scotia program materials, protocols, criteria, program nuances, etc.
- Responsible for participating in procurement activities such as selecting program vendors, developing a scope of work, evaluating, and selecting the successful proponent.
- Perform all other duties as required.
What Will Help You Succeed?
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (EIT); diploma in engineering technology or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Other relevant professional certifications such as LEED® AP, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), and Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) are considered assets.
- Valid driver's license.
- At least 2-5 years of relevant engineering or technical experience
- Project management experience is considered an asset.
- Technical knowledge and aptitude related to electrical utilities and Demand Response, including Direct Line Control and Demand Response Aggregator
- Experience working with building managers/operators, consultants, and/or owners is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of connected technology such as smart thermostats, smart home devices, load control switches, and connected appliances would be an asset
- Detail-oriented, customer focus, time management, and excellent oral and written communication
- Self-motivated, takes initiative, handles multiple tasks, and works to a high standard in an environment with tight timelines/deadlines.
- Proficient with all Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
What to expect in your first several weeks on the job:
In the first week, expect to:
- Read program materials to get familiar with documentation, tools, and processes.
- Meet with members of your team and colleagues from other functional areas of the business and how they interact with the Demand Response Program.
- Work with the Program Manager to learn standard program procedures, job responsibilities, program targets, and overall program goals.
- Get familiar with the general processes and how the program operates.
- Review ongoing projects.
In the first month, expect to:
- Become familiar with the program's process flow.
- Learn how to navigate and use the program project tracking/management tools.
- Meet other team members within ENS with whom you will work closely and understand how you will collaborate.
- Establish a performance plan with your manager.
- Learn more about team and/or department initiatives, project plans, documentation, tools, and processes.
- Continue self-directed and peer learning to develop knowledge of energy efficiency measures.
In the first three months, expect to:
- Become familiar with in-depth program specifics.
- Be able to manage and navigate program tracking information and management tools.
- Achieve significant progress in adherence to the project plan.
- Contribute to team/department initiatives.
- Meet with external partners and stakeholders.
- Work with your manager to develop individual learning/development goals.
