The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Sr. Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering & Studies-North Atlantic based in Sudbury Ontario. The position involves regular trips to underground mines and to the various surface plants. Relocation will be required for this role.

As a Sr. Electrical Engineer, will be responsible to provide engineering services to the various mines and plants in Sudbury and other Vale north Atlantic facilities.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Responsible for integrity of designs produced under his/her technical direction and legally approves and seals designs and drawings as per the Professional Engineers Act.
  • Provides technical direction for complex engineering designs within his/her area of expertise and assists and guides other design personnel.
  • Conduct complex engineering studies, conducts field inspections and prepares relevant reports and participate in the review of construction and commissioning and start-up functions.
  • Manages the work of design personnel, when assigned, to ensure adherence to scope, schedule, budget, codes and standards and conduction reviews of engineering consultants engineering designs, drawings and specifications on assigned projects.
  • Interact regularly with the plants and mines as a subject matter expert providing technical guidance and analysis and recommendations to the sites for unplanned outages related to tripped electrical power circuits or other upset conditions.
  • Provide technical assistance in trouble shooting, repair of complex electrical equipment and risk assessment and Provide technical assistance to Investigate electrical equipment failures.

About You

Education:

  • An Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • A Professional Engineering Designation

Experience:

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of (10) ten years of experience in the Electrical Engineering field.
  • Familiar with latest codes, acts and regulations and keeps abreast of technology and latest developments in his/her design field.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems including power distribution, motor controls including soft starters & VFDs, transformers, motors, including maintenance and testing.
  • Strong knowledge on performing power system studies.
  • Knowledge on industrial control systems and instrumentation is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of underground and surface equipment requirements to support mine development and production operations is highly desirable.
