On Call: Yes Job Summary: The Clinical RN Supervisor is a member of the clinical operation team responsible for managing and leading care delivery and the provision of safe, effective, quality people-centered care for their assigned team in compliance with VON policies and procedures. The Clinical RN Supervisor works closely with the management team to adhere to VON organization strategic priorities and clinical leading practices and supports the development of clinical skills to ensure the delivery of holistic nursing services. Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervises the work of a team, the delivery of client care services, and people-centered care in accordance with current regulatory guidelines and VON policies, procedures and standards.
  • Supervises staff on completion of risk assessments, investigation of issues, injuries and reporting related to client or employee incidents.
  • Monitors staffing quotas and skills sets to ensure professional and contract requirements are met.
  • Supports the development of staff expertise in collaboration with the clinical education team by evaluating educational plan and meeting with individual staff to ensure understanding, support compliance and completion by deadlines.
  • Monitors the performance of staff and provides informal and formal feedback to team members, including conducting performance reviews.
  • Leads retention strategies: coaching, mentoring and support service provider staff through resolution of problems and team building activities such as huddles, face to face meetings and one-on-ones.
  • Ensures staff performance reflects leading practices and shares key performance indicator (KPI) results with the team and engages team to conduct continuous improvement activities meetings.
  • Disseminate pertinent information related to clinical scope of practice to ensure staff remains compliant and informed of changing legislation and/or policies.
  • Actively contributes to internal and external committees to support safety, financial, quality and risk, accreditation performance, and VON representation with partners and funders.
  • Receives and documents all employee, family and client complaints/issues related to service delivery and takes appropriate steps to ensure satisfactory resolution.
  • Collaborates with supporting teams to assign staff by geography and skills, responding to clients' needs and priority coding.
  • Provides direct support to team as required to prioritize and triage client service provisions.
  • Documents team challenges for service delivery, seeks staff input, and creates a resolution plan and liaison with managers to achieve resolution.
  • Forms part of the clinical resource support to provide clinical advice and resources for service provider staff.
  • Promotes a culture of excellent clinical practice to align with VON organization strategic priorities and clinical leading practices.
  • Monitors multiple data sources to ensure comprehensive and accurate documentation and reporting is completed from admission to discharge by the service provider staff.
  • Participates in the on-call rotation to assist with the delivery of community care services, as required.
Common Responsibilities:
  • Promotes the goals and values of VON and their role as an integrated community care provider.
  • Promotes a safe and healthy workplace ensuring workplace conduct and activities are in accordance with the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and compliant with the VON Safety Management System, including all Policies, Safe Work Practices and Procedures.
  • Abides by all VON policies and work practices.
  • Abides by all confidentiality and protection of personal information policies, regulations and practices and ensures appropriate safeguards are in place within their role.
  • Works in collaboration with other staff in a team approach to service delivery.
External and Internal Relationships:
  • Works closely with Client Care Coordinators to address identified risks to the provision of care.
  • Regularly attends funder Home and Community Care Support Services (HCCSS) committees/working groups.
  • Communicates and works collaborative with internal departments IT, Finance, Occupational Health & Safety, HR, Practice, Quality & Risk to support the service provider staff.
Education, Designations and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BScN, BN) is required or equivalent.
  • Current registration with provincial nursing regulatory body.
  • A minimum of 2 years' of prior experience in supervising others.
  • Clinical practice experience preferred.
  • Experience in a homecare setting is an asset.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is an asset.
Skill Requirements:
  • Proficient nursing skills with the ability to read and interpret technical and clinical instructions.
  • Strong observation and assessment skills.
  • Strong knowledge of provincial regulations and best practices in health care.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal relationship building skills.
  • Strong management skills and the ability to lead, motivate and clinically support employees on proper procedures.
  • Ability to provide consistent quality care with attention to detail, organizational skills and effective time management.
Other:
  • Must have personal vehicle and possess both a current driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Willingness to travel regularly during the day as well as periodically overnight(s) to support sites and attend meetings.
  • A current and original satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required upon the start of your employment.
  • A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be required.
  • The use of Personal Protective Equipment may be required
