The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Civil/Geotechnical Engineering Co-op Student to join the SP&S team in Sudbury where they will be working on Tailings Dam projects.

This is a 4-12 month-fixed term co-op position starting in January 2025.

The successful Civil/Geotechnical Engineering Co-op Student candidate will work out of the Smelter office location, alongside Engineers, Designers and other personnel in the organization, to assist with a wide variety of tasks related to technical and engineering support.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Provide technical support tailings dam capital construction projects
  • Complete a technical project and present to Management
  • Participate in monitoring and reporting of capital performance
  • Visit sites, participate in audits
  • Support Engineering leads for activities such as scope writing, site auditing, and productivity monitoring

About You

Education:

  • Enrolled in a co-op program for an undergraduate degree from a university in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical/Geological Engineering program

Experience:

  • Previous work experience in an industrial setting would be an asset.

Skills:

  • Follow Vale's Safety Policies, Programs and Legislative Standards, must be obsessed with safety and risk
  • Strong Computer, Written and Oral skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well with others in a team environment
  • Demonstrate open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of work
  • Develop skills and abilities related to the provision of engineering to Ontario Operations
  • Ensure compliance to the applicable regulations, standards and guidelines
  • Maintain a high level of professional conduct
  • Complete assigned projects safely and on time. Project work may include engineering document preparation and review, input into the development of project systems, data analysis and reporting, scope preparation, project monitoring and reporting.
