Title : Enterprise Risk Management Director

Employee Working Location : Partially Virtual / Hybrid (Ottawa)

Employment Status : Temporary Full-Time (10 Months)

Salary Band : $93,838 - $117,298 / year

In this role, you will :

  • Lead the design of Enterprise Risk Framework Components - Enhance, build, or expand Risk Identification, Risk Scoring, and Risk Reporting.
  • Support the development of the Society's risk appetite statement and approach that reflects the Board and executive leadership preferences.
  • Leads the development, implementation and monitoring of systems, standards, and procedures for the identification, collection, and analysis of risk related information.
  • Continuously monitors the Society's enterprise risk exposure; escalate and flag areas of concern.
  • Maintains a strong working relationship with internal networks across the Society; meets regularly with key stakeholders responsible for Strategic Risk mitigations and Operational Risks.
  • Oversee the strategic risk register including the enhancement of key risk indicators to monitor and enhance risk mitigation, reporting and compliance.
  • Create Board and Board committee reporting; identify and implement opportunities to enhance Board and other risk related reporting.
  • Provide regular updates to Society Senior Management with respect to the operation of the Society's Risk Framework, including with respect to the Society's risk portfolio.
  • Leads the Annual Risk Meeting in coordination with Senior Risk management and other key stakeholders.
  • Investigate and assess emerging external trends & issues, industry advancements and material incidents across various industries and through external networks.
  • Coordinates with Senior management across the Society to support the alignment frameworks (i.e., incident, quality, etc.) and support coordination other Champion Networks.
  • Strengthen and expand the centralized risk reporting system, including ability to link reporting with other existing centralized reporting (i.e. incident reporting).
  • Lead the Risk Champion network through regular meetings, facilitated discussions to share learnings and evolve the maturity of the network.
  • Define Society standards for reporting and monitoring of Operational risks and in conjunction with Risk Champions, support the creation of annual risk champion plans.

What we are looking for :

  • Possess a Canadian certification in Risk Management (CRM) and and/or equivalent knowledge and experience. With 7-10 years of relevant experience in risk management leadership roles in large complex organizations, preferably in non-for profit or humanitarian organization contexts.
  • A post-secondary degree in relevant discipline.
  • Comprehensive understanding of risk assessment principles, risk analysis, reporting, and internal controls.
  • Extensive experience in leading other risk leaders, developing risk or strategic documents, tools, and procedures.
  • Experience in monitoring emerging issues that could impact organizational programs and providing options for consideration to minimize impact.
  • Organized, able to handle a large and varied workload and results driven to prioritize tasks and deliver deadlines.
  • Produce accurate, timely, and concise reports at an executive and board level reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor on complex or unfamiliar topic to colleagues.
  • Success in developing effective teams and ability to foster effective working relationships.
  • Excellent presentation skills produce and deliver presentations to various audiences using appropriate presentation tools.
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving skills, and ability to anticipate barriers and opportunities.

Working Conditions :

  • Most of the work is performed in a clean and comfortable environment.
  • May include long to moderate hours sitting and using computers and office equipment.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours on short notice including weekends.
  • Ability to work in stressful and often ambiguous conditions.
  • This position may require domestic or overseas travel to attend conferences or meetings.
