About the role

Reporting to the Director of Recreation, Parks & Tourism, the Active Living Coordinator is responsible for implementing and evaluating the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg's Active Living Strategy and Active Transportation Plan. This position is responsible for developing, coordinating and promoting activities that encourage active lifestyles among community members. This role involves collaboration with internal municipal departments, municipalities, community groups and regional, and provincial partners to enhance wellness.

This position requires a strong communicator with the ability to actively listen to build relationships and partnerships. You are energetic individual who enjoys working with others using a collaborative approach to address challenges. You are a team player who easily engages with others and is eager to help.

Is this you?

As the ideal candidate you possess the following:

Minimum qualifications:

  • A university degree in Recreation/Community Development; and
  • At least three years relevant community work experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience with community development and program administration in a municipal setting is considered an asset.
  • Community engagement skills.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proceed with objectives with limited supervision.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of recreation delivery in Nova Scotia.
  • Knowledge of physical activity including benefits, trends, barriers and interventions.
  • Demonstrated competence at community development, facilitation, and partnering.
  • General knowledge of municipal administration and management and general municipal government operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with committees, community representatives and various levels of government.
  • General knowledge of Geographic Information Systems, including ArcGIS.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

Conditions of Employment

  • Permanent, Full-time
  • Based on 35-hour work week
  • Salary: $62,693- 78,367 (Band 60-Specialist) commensurate with qualifications and experience.
  • In addition to salary, MODL offers a generous suite of benefits, including a defined benefit pension plan and flexible work options.
  • Travel in Lunenburg and Queens Counties is required and will be compensated in accordance with MODL's Travel policy.
  • Must have reliable access to a personal vehicle for travel, valid driver's license and insurance.
  • Emergency First Aid, CPR and WHMIS certification (or willing to obtain).
  • Satisfactory RCMP Screening and Child Abuse Registry forms.
