School Social Worker I
The School Social Work practice incorporates a variety of methods, including individual, group work, community engagement, and consultation. The School Social Worker will support schools and staff in various issues in the context of school social work practice. This may include but is not limited to personal, social, and emotional, family functioning, schooling, and academic success.
This is a District-based position serving the Child and Youth Team.
Description:
This is entry level professional social work involving the provision of services/interventions to individuals, families, and groups to improve social functioning. The work involves assessment and preparation of case analysis; identification of social needs and recommending appropriate action. Employees are responsible for preparing case analysis and reports, acting as a resource to educators and are establishing/maintaining effective working relationships with students, parents, teaching staff, groups, other government departments, community agencies and the public. As the variety and difficulty of assignments increases, more latitude in independent judgment and decision making is permitted as the employee acquires knowledge and skill in the assigned areas of activities. Other related duties may be assigned, as necessary. Travel is required.
Qualifications:
Graduation from university with a bachelor's in social work or a related discipline.
Necessary Special Requirement: Registration with the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers.
Salary:
In accordance with the New Brunswick Union of Public and Private Employees–Professional Support Group Collective Agreement.

The School Social Work practice incorporates a variety of methods, including individual, group work, community engagement, and consultation. The School Social Worker will support schools and staff in various issues in the context of school social work practice. This may include but is not limited to personal, social, and emotional, family functioning, schooling, and academic success.
This is a District-based position and will be collaboratively supervised by the School Administrator(s) and Director of Education Support Services.
DEFINITION:
This is full-level professional social work involving the provision of services/interventions to individuals, families and groups to improve social functioning. The work involves assessment, counseling, intervention, mediation and rehabilitation. Employees are responsible for preparing case analysis and reports, acting as a
resource to educators and are establishing/maintaining effective working relationships with students, parents, teaching staff, groups, other government departments, community agencies and the general public. Work requires considerable mature professional judgment and initiative, an understanding of interpersonal relationships and family dynamics, knowledge of the theories of intervention, mediation, social assessment and diagnosis and the ability to counsel individuals and groups. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary. Travel is required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from university with a master's in social work; graduation from university with a Bachelor of
Social Work and related experience; or graduation from university at the bachelor level in a related discipline
plus, considerable related experience.
