The Scott McCain & Leslie McLean Centre for Sport, Business and Health at Saint Mary's University is seeking a Fellow able to build the curriculum for two newly proposed Bach[1]elor degrees at Saint Mary's University: a Bachelor of Commerce in Sports Business and a Bachelor of Arts in Sport, Health, & Wellness

Job Information and Responsibilities

The successful candidate, who will have a PhD in the social sciences or humanities with a sport-related research focus, will play a key role in developing, rolling out, and teaching the curriculum for a program whose aim is to equip students with the multidisciplinary skills needed to navigate the sport sector with social responsibility and sustainability in mind. Beginning with shared fundamentals from arts and business, and ending in a com[1]mon capstone experience, both majors in Sport, Health, & Wellness and Sport Business will be well positioned to take on leadership roles in sport-related decision making.

Bachelor of Commerce students taking the major in Sport Business will follow a business curriculum infused with relevant social sciences and humanities. skills and perspectives. Bachelor of Arts students taking the major in Sport, Health, & Wellness will follow a social sciences and humanities curriculum infused with relevant business skills and perspectives. The McCain McLean Centre Fellow will work collaboratively with McCain McLean Centre staff and others from the Faculty of Arts to develop the required social sciences and humanities curriculum. Courses will focus on philosophy and sport; health and wellness in sport; sport, diversity & inclusion; sport in historical context; and sport governance.

Experience and Education Requirements

The ideal candidate will have experience teaching social sciences or humanities courses focused on sport. While the Fellow will be responsible for developing and delivering relevant curriculum, the ideal candidate will also pursue a relevant and robust research agenda. The successful candidate will receive a 2-year fellowship to develop program curriculum. Teaching opportunities may be available as part-time faculty under the CUPE 3912 Collective Agreement. Should the program be successful, the fellowship may transition into a full-time tenure track position.

  5. one example of recent peer reviewed, scholarly writing;
  6. graduate transcripts; and
