Meridia is delighted to partner with Strum Consulting in recruiting an Intermediate or Senior Environmental Scientist/Project Manager to join their team in one of their Atlantic Canadian offices.

Role Description

The Intermediate or Senior Environmental Scientist/Project Manager at Strum Consulting will play a key role in supporting and expanding the company's environmental services in Atlantic Canada. This position involves leading and managing projects, providing expert guidance on environmental assessments, and fostering client relationships to ensure the highest quality of service. The role requires a dynamic professional capable of working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to the diverse needs of clients.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assist with Strum's growth and impact in Atlantic Canada through quality, integrity, and technical competence.
  • Deliver services to key clients, including project planning and management, environmental assessment, public engagement, and regulatory support.
  • Develop methodologies, organize field programs, and coordinate logistics for efficient execution.
  • Support with expertise in terrestrial and/or aquatic ecology, fish and/or wildlife biology, and species at risk.
  • Coordinate project team activities of environmental assessments, compensation/offsetting plans, and related regulatory permitting assignments.
  • Manage environmental assessments and other permit projects.
  • Develop and submit proposals, including scoping, budget development, and proposal writing.
  • Liaise with public and private sector clients, government agencies, sub-consultants, and community representatives, including Indigenous Peoples.
  • Provide leadership, development, and mentorship to staff, focusing on technical writing, field skills, and project direction.
  • Adhere to health, safety, and environmental policies and practices.
  • Travel and work throughout Atlantic Canada as required.

Your Qualifications

As the ideal candidate for the Environmental Scientist position, you bring 7+ years of professional experience in the environmental field, a strong background in consulting and project management, and a relevant educational background. You have exceptional attention to detail, proficiency in relevant software, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement and learning.

Your qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, environmental engineering, or a related environmental discipline.
  • Relevant professional designation (e.g., P. Biol, EP, PMP) is an asset.
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in the environmental field, including roles with increasing responsibility and an extensive consulting background.
  • Proven experience in project management, overseeing technical teams to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory criteria.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment with high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and other software used for data collection, compilation, and presentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, along with a professional demeanor.
  • Strong research skills to develop project-related solutions aligned with methodologies, regulatory criteria, and industry standards.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills to manage timelines, personal schedules, and meet deadlines.
  • Proactive, solution-focused approach with a willingness to evaluate and improve both personal and company performance and processes continually.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative approach.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes.
