The salary scale for Professional Support 5 is based on twelve steps that range from $ 77,032.43 - $ 102,412.68. New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience which is $ 89,704.12 annually.

Responsabilités

What you will be doing…

  • As an integral part of Student Services, you will be part of a team that provides the first line of contact and service-delivery for all students at the Campus who are experiencing personal, social or academic difficulties. Counsellors serve as sources of information relating to career development, wellness, mental health, and physical well-being.
  • You will also refer students to other services and resources within the college or in the community, as appropriate.
  • You will create resources and deliver and/or coordinate group sessions and workshops on a wide range of wellness and personal management topics, to aid students in adjusting to college life and becoming successful learners. In addition to providing brief, solution-focused counselling to students, you will provide leadership and support regarding critical incidents involving the entire campus community.
  • You will foster the formation of campus-based groups to help students develop support networks. As part of the Student Services team, you will participate in, or at times leading the organization of campus events, activities, or committees that contribute to the distinctive student experience, such as Orientation, Student Success Night, and the Campus Food Bank.
Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a master's degree in clinical social work, Psychology or Counselling or other master's degree enabling registration with one of the provincial regulatory bodies.
  • You have Registered with or undergoing candidacy process with the relevant regulatory body; Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT), Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW), Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology (NSBEP).
  • You have a minimum of five years (full time equivalent) post counselling credential relevant occupational experience counselling adults in a variety of specialities, (e.g. academic, career and personal), including working with post-secondary and or secondary students .
  • Occupational experience that includes counselling in an educational and/or clinical environment would be considered an asset.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, case notes.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.
  • You have experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery and evaluation.
  • You have experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students.

  • You have proven records and information management skills and abilities specifically related to counselling caseloads.
  • You have strong project management skills (i.e., development of workshops specifically around stress management and wellness)

As a condition of employment, Professional Support employees at NSCC must complete a two-year (part-time) adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status, all probationary, full or part-time Professional Support employees of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Professional Support employees whose term appointment is twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.
